Episode 71

During the free period at Barrington Academy Lyle Anderson sat in his classroom at his desk opposite one of his students' parents. He had called Zelda Zoom in for a meeting about the lackluster academic performance of her thirteen year old son Zed. But he was beginning to regret doing exactly that. Especially since from the moment the owner of a local flower shop and wife of a state department analyst Douglas Zoom had entered the classroom she had begun to babble, yes babbling was what she did, at the first sight of him.

" Oh , we saw you on the Rebel show ! ," Zelda said happily with her plump beringed hands clutched together as though she was praying. " You were soooo good, Mr. Anderson, and so was that little Black girl Charity , no , Faith , Grace , no , it was Bliss ! Bliss Jones ! I can't believe you actually teach at my son's school. Wait until my bridge club finds out ! "

Lyle swallowed with embarrassment and smiled self consciously as he fidgeted in his chair behind the desk. He could hear two things in the room vividly. The chirping of both his caged songbird and the woman before him calling him " the next Reese Malden ".

" Thank you so much, Mrs. Zoom , but I would.... like to return to what you came here for. Young Zed has a great deal of potential as a student but......"

Zelda bubbled out ," Can I have your autograph ? And , one for my mother too ? Her name is Bernice. And , maybe one for my hairstylist. It's such a shame you'll be leaving Barrington for your new singing career though. "

" I'm actually not leaving......"

" Oh , you're just so adorable ! ," Zelda clucked.
