" We may have a problem," Matilda said over the phone to Margaret.
Margaret sat at her desk, sipping ginger ale for her slightly nauseous stomach and doing edits on a few articles. The rest she had parcelled out to David in his own office. She really did like having him as a co editor even if he was just a tad overly dramatic and very superficial. He was still a decent hard worker. " What do you mean we have a problem? "
Matilda said," The baby Maeve had all those years ago. He's back in our lives. He called me. Aiden Norris is his name."
Margaret's fingers froze on the keyboard of her computer as she was typing. Her face turned colder as she pictured what had become of her twin and best friend. " What does he want? "
Matilda sighed. " He wanted to meet with me to discuss her. Apparently Daniel gave him some picture of her. I told him no. I told him not to contact me again. "
Margaret leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. Behind the lids she pictured her sister. Maeve. She missed her still. She tried to visit as often as she could but it didn't make a difference anyway. It never would, the doctors said. The brain damage was too severe. She was awake but aware of nothing really at the home in Dublin that all the siblings put money into to keep her housed and feed and taken care of including Matilda. She suspected that part of Matilda's allowance from Richard Norland went to their sister's care. " What's he like? This Aiden Norris. And what did you tell him? "
Matilda laughed bitterly. " He's nice enough. Although I didn't talk to him much. Why should I have? Or you for that matter? And, I told him what we always tell people about her. She's dead. How is she by the way? I know you call the home twice a week."
" They say she's the same. " Then she continued to sit there in her chair behind her desk with her eyes shut tightly and her sister talking to her.
