The house was so peaceful looking and so empty. Exactly the way she wanted it to be. She did not require anyone to be home today. She did not want anyone to be home today.
Eighteen year old Kit Keller stood on the front porch of Dr. Spencer Norland - Lane's home. Exactly like she had been the day she had laid the baby on this very porch under the swing. She carefully looked towards the house across the street where her Aunt Kris lived at even as she clutched the shopping bag she held tightly in her hands. She couldn't get caught. She didn't want anyone to know the truth. Especially not her family. She had made a mistake but solved it by giving the baby to her idol. The baby was in better hands really. She didn't want kids. Never had. She just made a mistake.
As the rain continued to spill lightly outside the screened in porch she gently lowered the bag onto the porch swing. The bag that contained a sweet faced teddy bear in a frilly pink tutu along with a plain note that said " Happy Birthday".
" Be happy. Actually I know you are, little one. " As she proceeded to leave the porch to run over to her aunt's house she whispered softly," Thank you, Dr. Norland - Lane. "
