" I lost all rights to my son ," Tania said as she tossed an overstuffed pillow across the living room at the wall where one of her previous attempts at watercolor painting resided clumsily.
Wilson shook his head at her. " No. You heard Edward. It's not a win for us or him. It's a ceasefire. For now. We have time to regroup. Plan. We need to gather as many character witnesses as we can get on our side. You need to dress more.... appropriately for your age. Not that you're not gorgeous as you are, darling, but that judge looks very old fashioned. Very plain Jane. And , you must stop smoking pot. I also think we should find a church to attend. Perhaps a Baptist or Catholic? "
Tania made a face as she ran her hands through her long tangled hair. " I hate organized religion. Is that really necessary? Changing our lives? That awful woman may just keep my son with Andrew Norland permanently. Maybe we should just accept the joint custody with visitation. It's better than.... this. "
Wilson laughed harshly. " Are you kidding? Do you really want Lewis around someone like Nigel Norland anymore than he has already been exposed? You read that dossier from the PI. He sold his body for money. He was no more than a common whore. If Richard Norland had sense he would leave the man high and dry."
As Wilson went over to pour himself a scotch and soda Tania sat on the sofa. She looked at her husband with a contrary expression on her face. " Is that what you would do, dear husband mine?"
He glanced at her with the glass in hand and a perplexed look on his face. " What would I do? Do you want a drink? We can still partake in our own homes you know. But until that case is finally over we need to remake ourselves a little. Just a little more upright. More upright than your ex with the pole up his ass. And, okay, no Catholic or Baptist. What about that Unitarian whatever church in Hyattsville? The one run by the man and woman? Believe he used to be a Methodist minister. Go to some services , plop a few dollars in the collection plate, do some good work. We should be a shoe in with the judge. "
" Yes. I want a drink. Whiskey sour. And, I mean what would you do if it was me with the sordid past ? Actually I do have a little of one as you heard today from that mousy lawyer of Richard's. "
Wilson began to prepare her drink. " Cheating and doing a little weed isn't the same as being a paid whore. As long as you are not still cheating. Are you? " His eyes went to her face suddenly.
Tania averted her eyes and smiled slightly. " Of course I'm not. Why would I ever cheat on you, darling? "
