Washington DC - Georgetown
Natasha Volkouv shook her head as she briefly covered her mouth slightly as she moved into her lab with the various cages of noisy rabbits and the banks of computer screens as well as her other scientific equipment. She smoothed down the spotless white lab coat that covered her baggy pale green pantsuit and then clutched at her unsteadily churning stomach.
She didn't know exactly what was wrong with her lately. She knew it was not pregnancy. Thank the Father above. Since birth of last baby Boris she and Maxim had not had intercourse with one another. Which she was thankful for really. The only reason she had wed the man was that their families were such close friends. Her parents thought that Maxim was just perfect for her. She personally considered him to be a boring little man in life and bed. And , so weak. He looked like Nicholas but he refused to act like his father to her irritation. He was even softer than his brother Alexi and the bastard child Nigel who everyone knew were both light in the loafers and gey. That foolish Alexi thought nobody knew but how could they not especially with him flaunting that obnoxious reporter man in front of their faces the way he had been recently doing? Not that she cared who he and the bastard one slept with. Alexi was too selfish to marry and have baby by scientific or adoption means. And , the bastard had no legitimate children; stepchildren and the supposed foster children did not count in her eyes. The only one who had given Nicholas his precious grandchildren and all boys at that was her. Thanks to herself she and Maxim had a solid grip on the Volkouv fortune when the old man finally joined his deceased wives. Of course, there were also the two babies her father in law was having with the Swan sisters although they were bastards so perhaps not as important as her own , she thought as she opened the top drawer in her own desk and pulled out the stomach medicine that Josephine had made her up to combat the nausea and pains she had been experiencing lately. Josephine could be abrasive, yes , but she was a godsend to her. The woman was incredible with the boys and gave them much needed discipline to ensure they grow up strong like their grandfathers and not weak like their father. And, she was very intelligent in her own right. The woman knew an enormous amount about science especially chemistry that actually gave her a bout of jealousy occasionally. Well , at least , her talents were merely a hobby and not competition to herself. And , her homemade medicine for the family worked far better than anything prescribed by any doctor.
She unscrewed the tight top on the bottle and drink just a small amount of the slightly bitter tasting liquid. She made a face at the texture of it. Nasty , she mused as she replaced the bottle in the drawer swiftly. But medicine was not meant to be sweet like candy. And, as long as it helped remove her current ailment she didn't care how it tasted to her. Project Raven was moving along faster than she and her team had estimated it would. After animal testing they would move onto the human trial which hopefully subjects like the hideous bastard brother in law Nigel Norland would come in handy. She was a very busy woman. She had absolutely no time to be sick.
