Tania collapsed into the huge bright red bean bag chair in her and Wilson's living room in their new Evergreen Acres townhouse. She sighed deeply and began to massage her temples as she started to chant her mantra over and over again " Eternal Peace, Eternal Peace".
Wilson looked at his wife and rolled his eyes. " Would you like a drink?," he asked as he walked over to the bar where he proceeded to pour himself a very large brandy. Yes. It was early but after last night and this morning at the hospital he figured he deserved it. Richard Norland was bad enough to deal with but that man of his...... Nigel Norland was an arrogant little man. Too arrogant considering that missing eye and the hideous scars. It had to be the connection to the Volokuv family money. Must be nice , he thought bitterly. Coming from money like Norland and his husband. Not like himself. He had grown up the son of a mailman and a teacher's aide who worked to put himself through school. Who worked for everything he had including winning the heart of Tania.
" It's too early, honey dew ," she murmured as she glanced at him. " And , you know I don't drink before five. "
Wilson drained the murky liquid in his glass. " I called Claire Lowen. Explained the situation. She's assigning us an associate that's good at child custody. Name's Edward Pierce. Pierce is going to petition the court for full custody of Lewis. They think we have a good case."
Tania slipped off her pale pink ballerina flats and crossed her long slim legs to massage her left foot. " I wonder if we should hold off. Lewis is in such trauma now. And, Nigel did say he wrote a note blaming the custody battle....."
Wilson poured another brandy swiftly. He shook his head. " Hold off for what? No matter the reason the boy tried to kill himself while they left him and other children unsupervised so they could have a night out. That's highly irresponsible. Norland should not be raising a potted plant. And, that husband of his is annoying. He thinks he knows everything. Damn foreigner. "
Tania closed her eyes and mused that it would do no good discussing this with Wilson. After getting laid off from the company and returning to America to work a teaching job he would probably hate he had been so difficult to communicate with now. He was determined to prove his worth by having a child which they had tried to do in Japan to no avail. It wasn't his fault she had had three back to back miscarriages. It was not hers either. It was just fate. Destiny. But it was still devastating especially to Wilson.
Wilson wanted a child to raise as his own. And, he was determined that the child would be Lewis.
And, her husband always got what he wanted. Usually. No matter what he had to do.
She felt sorry for her ex-husband and Nigel. They did not stand a chance really.
" I changed my mind. Darling, pour me a scotch. "
