" I'm sorry," Nigel whispered in an almost hesitant and ashamedly self conscious voice as he sat on the bed next to Richard after having unpacked his luggage. " I just.... I felt responsible. I didn't know how to.... help....."

Richard glanced over at his husband. He shook his head. " I understand. I really do because I understand you. You are the most generous and loyal man , person , I know. Or have met. Will ever meet. It's part of why I not only love you but I adore you. I do , you know, I adore you. Which is why if you had left my life for good..... I don't know what I would have done. "

Nigel looked at him and touched his eye patch nervously. " You would have been fine. You would have moved on. I'm not that special. "

Richard laughed as he reached out to stroke the other man's face on the scarred side. Nigel's one working eye fluttered closed slowly and his hand reached up to touch Richard's. " But you are. You are truly special. You transformed me into who you see today. No. It's true. I was a cold heartless bastard before who was only obsessed with money and the firm. My ex wives were right about me. I was a bad husband and father before you. You made me want more. You made me better. If you had left me I would have lost everything. Lewis is already no longer in my custody and at a hospital besides that. We both know Richie and Tanisha would have chosen to go with you. Hell , even Rebecca and the dogs would have chosen you. Nigel opened his eye which looked outraged. " Oh , what bloody nonsense. You forget I fell in love with the old Richard. For six years I loved the old Richard. Because I could see deep down who you are now. A good kind generous man who loves his family. You worked hard to provide for the wives who cheated on you and used you. Fuck them. And , I don't think the kids would have chosen me over you. They adore you, you twat. Even Richie. I adore you. I would have been miserable my entire life without you but as long as you were happy and you had all your children including Lewis I could have tolerated it. "

Richard whispered," Please don't do it again to me. Please don't even joke about leaving me again. I don't blame you for what happened. First I already knew your past and we already dealt with it.
