" See ? ," Wilson said with pointed displeasure in his voice as he pointed at Richard and Nigel. " You see , Tania? The boy is out of control because of his father's lack of parenting control. He can't even control his other children much less Lewis. "
Tania remained silent as her eyes just kept focused on the door that Lewis left through. As though expecting him to come back again.
Richard shook his head and said," Please shut up, Kaye. Just shut up. "
" This isn't your courtroom, " your honor " ," Wilson snapped tersely as he leaned forward and glared at Richard.
Lynn tapped her pen on the notepad. " I think Lewis made excellent progress. What do you all think about what he just said to you? "
Rebecca was the first to speak on her question, saying from beside her grandfather ," I'm surprised he said that much. Lewis never talks much. Not about anything important. Just games. "
Niles snorted loudly.
Andrew said quietly," I would like to say something. "
Lynn nodded at him. " Please do , Andrew. You have the floor. What is your view on your grandson's words? "
Andrew sighed and leaned back in the chair with a troubled look on his face. " I'm proud of him. Yes , he made a mistake. Couple big ones but he's only a kid and he's still learning how to deal with the world and his emotions. I look around at all the adults in this room..... And , I include you , Niles, since you want to pretend you're an adult with a wife and baby. I look at you all and I think about my own mistakes in life. I think about how I lost so much time with my own children. So many years. Yes , my ex wife played dirty but I should have fought more instead of losing myself in a bottle of alcohol. "
His eyes went to his son's face. " Richard, I'm proud of you too. I don't know what you did in the past with your child rearing but I know what you do now. You are a better father than I ever was. "
Niles laughed harshly. And , at the sound Andrew glanced over at his grandson.
" Niles, you called Rebecca spoiled but so are you, boy. You are a spoiled nasty piece of shit that has anger issues that go way beyond your father and his current marriage. You pride yourself on being a father but let me say this to you: if your son Trey grows up to treat you like you do your father what will you do? "
Niles stood up with waves of rage emanating off his body as he glared at his grandfather. " Fuck you, old man. And , fuck your son. Trey won't think anything about me except that I'm a good father whose always there for him." Then he stomped out of the room and slammed the door so hard that the hinges practically shook fiercely.
Andrew said wearily," It's getting late. I think Richard and Tania need to sit down and talk without the judge and lawyers and even their spouses. Just sit down and discuss Lewis in a neutral place because he's what matters now. Not your egos or the past. Him. If you can't figure it out then I will take him home with me and Glory when he gets released. " Then he too stood up and walked over to the door to leave although more quieter than his grandson Niles.
Lynn looked at the remaining people in the room. " What do the rest of you think about what Andrew just said? "
Wilson stood up and reached for his wife's hands to pull her up to her feet. " I think we're going home. This was a waste of our time. Norland , we'll see you in court. "
