Ami Woo ran her thin hand over her buzz cut mint green dyed hair and cut her slanted overly made up with mascara and eyeliner dark eyes over at Luci Moore who was busily sketching the simple bowl of plastic fruit on the front table in the art class taught by the headmaster Dr. Gerald HighTower who made the rounds of the classroom examining everyone's work and giving concrete criticism and praise.
" You know A.J. Norris doesn't really like Willow right? ," Ami smirked as she leaned closer to the getting taller by the day Black girl with the tightly wound braids around her long lean attractive dark brown face.
Luci looked back at her old friend from the public middle school who she had been excited to find out was now attending Bougie Academy because her parents didn't approve of the middle school principal Kris Keller. " How do you know that? ," she whispered back.
Ami laughed softly. " Because I observe everything. I've trained myself in it. I plan on joining the CIA after college. It's why I'm learning Arabic languages. They love Arabic languages. "
Luci snorted ," I'm going to be a doctor. I wouldn't ever work for the government. I don't like the government. You should really read Marx you know. Besides how does that tell you they don't like Willow? According to Willow everyone likes her."
Including Sol , Luci thought bitterly.
" I know because they don't look at her the way they do you. "
Luci looked shocked and almost made a critical mistake in the sketch she was painstakingly working on. " A.J. doesn't like me. We're just friends. "
" Sure. Right. Like Franco didn't like you."
" How do you know about Franco liking me once ? Ami , that was before you got here. "
Ami smiled in a slightly mysterious way. " I know everything. Told you. Observant. And, they do , you know. Besides someone else likes Willow. "
" Who ? Don't hold out, girl. "
Ami looked very mischievous as she murmured," Me. "
Luci made a face. " Why ? And , you know she's not into girls, right? "
Ami's smile just got bigger as she said," Sure she is. Learn to really observe, Luci Moore. "
