As Faith sat at the kitchen table with Andrew and Joy she made a face at the odd smelling food that the housekeeper from hell Winston had hired them made for dinner. She pointed at it and demanded to know," What the hell is this stuff? "

Olga looked down her very large nose at the younger Black woman, disdain evident on her plain pale face. " Is good food. I know you Americans not used to good food here. You want everything fried fried fried. Not healthy. Especially with you expecting baby. " She said baby with distaste. Nobody at agency had told Olga Petrova that she would be working for mixed household , an old White man with two Black women , for next few months and they certainly had not told her two of the women there were in such odd relationship. Lesbians they called it. Lesbians having baby that would have two mothers and two fathers. Very strange thing. But she did not care what they were really. She had worked in other households that she considered to be bizarre. This one was not as bad as the Italian singer who had had the Bengal tiger. Or the Russian scientist that had body parts for his experiments all over house. " It is called shchi. Main soup of my people back home. Very filling. Very good. Poor shchi usually have only one cabbage , one onion. I made you people the rich shchi because you Americans want everything rich. It has cabbage , meat , root vegetables , spices , garnishes. Very good it is. I raise six children on it. Three strong girls , three strapping boys. They grow up very strong. You eat you have strong baby too. For dessert I make chocolate covered prune. It was always favorite of my long departed mother. " She crossed herself over her enormous chest before stomping over to the kitchen counter where she proceeded to  scrub once more the already spotless surface.

Andrew blanched at the mention of prunes as he picked at the soup in his bowl. " You know , girls , I think I may return to Alfred and Gerald's house. Glory is right. Alfred needs all the support he can get now. And I do miss Glory. Besides I can still attend AA meetings at the UUC while living with my wife. Of course you two can stay here. Glory and I planned to have you move in anyway while we are with Alfred. " He mused that he couldn't wait to be away from Olga of the strange cooking and excessive cleaning habits and abrupt personality. He thought that his adoptive mother Edie would have loved her.

Faith furrowed her brow at him and opened her mouth just as Joy said , " I do think that is a good idea , Andrew. A marriage must be worked on together not apart. If you both want I am willing to do marriage counseling with the two of you. Or Jas can if you prefer a man. "

Andrew smiled at her. " I think that would be quite nice. I'll ask Glory about it. Tonight. After dinner. But before .... the lovely.... dessert. I don't seem to have much appetite tonight. "

" I wonder why , " Faith grumbled as she took a slight tentative taste of the soup and then a larger one once she realized she was still alive after swallowing it. " By the way , Andrew , I meant to ask you something but then you got yourself snatched up by your Mama and all. Anyway , I still want DuBuis to walk me at the wedding. Joy and Bliss are getting walked by their dad. But ..... I was ..... you know ..... wondering if you would...... "

Joy looked at her stammering fiancée and the now confused Andrew with equal amounts of love and fondness evident upon her serenely  lovely brown face.  " What Faith is asking you , Andrew , is if you would escort her down the aisle along with her brother. I personally think it is a lovely idea. "

Faith looked relieved that Joy had stepped in to rescue her verbally as Olga began to bang pots and pans about in the sink for some ungodly reason. " Yeah. I was thinking of Nicholas. He's not as bad as I thought and he's paying for the whole thing and all but...... Anyway Joy asked him to read a bible verse or a poem or something. Anyway , you wanna do it or not ? "

Andrew didn't even hesitate. He just leaned over and kissed her on her cheek much to her great surprise. " I would be delighted. I never got to walk Lorraine down the aisle. Walking you will be a honor and a privilege.  "
