" Dad , Mom , " Paul said nervously as he stood beside Aiden in his rental house's living room. Aiden had came alone for the dinner at Paul's because A.J. refused to attend. So after painstakingly dressing in something he hoped was suitable ( his dark blue church/ wedding/ funeral suit and shined dress shoes ) and stopping at a liquor store for a nice bottle of white wine ( Paul's favorite ) he had dropped his son off at his grandmother's for the night.

( " You look so nice, Scooter, dear ," Alice Rose had said after kissing his cheek and ruffling his hair. " You have fun and don't worry about A.J. We'll have such fun here. Bernard can show them his stamp collection. And , we have many board games here as well. ")

Paul continued on with ," This is my.... Aiden. Aiden Norris. Aiden , these are my parents ,  Phillip and Tabitha Paterson. My father is ..... director of the CIA. My mother is an undersecretary at the state department. Mom , Dad , Aiden is a reporter for The Washington Reign. He writes the obituary section you like, Dad. He's won several awards for his writing. "

Aiden reached out to shake hands with both of them even as he fought to keep back his own nervous feelings. " Nice to meet you both, sir , ma'am. "

Tabitha smiled coolly as she sat gracefully down in a nearby chair and crossed her legs. "It's very surprising to meet you. Paul , I thought you were still seeing that wonderful man who worked for the FBI . Robert? Rex ? What was it, darling? "

Before Paul could answer his father, still looking at Aiden with hard eyes of blue steel, said firmly," It was Rex. Rex Fordham. An excellent man. Strong man who will go far. Rex and I still golf together at the club. Do you golf , Norris? "

Aiden swallowed hard as he and Paul went to sit on the sofa. He felt a little less uneasy as Paul reached out to hold his hand and gave it a squeeze. " No , sir. I'm not very athletic really. I do enjoy watching it on tv. "

Phillip laughed. " Not the same. Yes , I have read your little obituary thing although I don't really do the Reign. I prefer the Post. Good solid paper is the Post. The Reign is still just a sleazy tabloid. No matter how much money those singers put into it. "

" Oh ," Tabitha said casually," but the Reign is so interesting. So much fun. But yes they are a tabloid. " She laughed in a carefree manner. " Do you know Rebel and Reese Malden ? "

Aiden said softly," Not beyond working for them, no. They seem very nice though. And, the newspaper is gaining more respectablity. I think. "

Tabitha yawned slightly. " Oh. Well , perhaps you'll become more acquainted with them one day. Paul , doesn't Rex know the president? Or , was it the chief of staff? "

Phillip looked at his son with a smirk to his lips. " Rex was asking after you, son. I was thinking of inviting him to dinner next week. You should come. Alone. "

Aiden felt his whole body chilling. He wanted to leave. Right now. It was obvious these people didn't like him. Maybe he should not have come. He would have stood up and walked out if Paul didn't keep holding his hand tightly and said," I don't think so, Dad. I'm perfectly happy dating Aiden. "
