Jungkook slowed the bike to stop in front of Jeon Haveli, the massive gates looming ahead as the cool breeze settled around them.
Tae quietly got down from the bike, smoothing her lehenga as she stepped to the side. She watched as Jungkook leaned forward to grab the carry bags Mr Kim had sent with them, filled with gifts for Jiminee and other members of the household.
Just as Jungkook reached for the bags, a small voice interrupted him.
Jm- Kookie! (she called out, stretching her tiny arms up toward him) Carry me!
Jungkook glanced down at her, giving her a fake stern look.
Jk- Jiminee, you're a big girl now. You should walk on your own, hmm? (his tone was commanding, but there was a hint of softness beneath it)
Jiminee, however, wasn't convinced. She pouted, her large, innocent eyes beginning to well up with unshed tears.
Jungkook let out a small sigh, his resolve crumbling at the sight of her teary-eyed face. He leaned down, scooping her up with ease, though he shot her a playful glare.
Jk- Alright, fine. But you're becoming too spoiled, you know that? (he muttered, trying to sound tough)
Jiminee giggled, clinging to him as she rested her head on his shoulder, her tears forgotten. Jungkook shifted her onto one arm, then bent to reach for the bags again. But before he could grab them, Tae stepped forward.
Tae- I will take the bags inside. (she offered quietly, her voice soft)
Jungkook glanced at her, nodding slightly. Despite his agreement, he still picked up a few bags with his free hand, leaving the rest for her.
Tae picked up the remaining bags, walking beside him as they entered the haveli.
As soon as she walked in, the quietness of the place surprised her. It was strangely calm, with only the soft movements of the maids and servants in the background. The usual noise she was used to—Dadi-sa giving orders or family members chatting—was missing.
She paused, looking around before casting a confused glance at Jungkook.
Tae- Where are everyone? (she asked, her voice laced with uncertainty)
Jungkook shifted Jiminee in his arms, glancing at Tae briefly before answering.
Jk- They all went on a religious trip and will return by tomorrow morning. I didn't go because I have work to finish here.
Tae nodded slowly, though inwardly she was surprised.
Tae's pov.
He didn't mention this before. If I had known, perhaps I could have stayed at Maa and Bapu-sa's house for one more day.
A faint feeling of loneliness settled over her as she realized she'd be alone in the massive haveli, with only the maids and servants for company.
Jungkook walked into his study to grab the documents he needed. He emerged a few moments later, adjusting the papers in his hand before addressing her once more.
Jk- I'll return by evening.
Tae gave a small nod.
Jungkook glanced toward Jiminee, who was now happily playing with one of the toys from the bag.
Jk- Stay inside with Jiminee. (he said, his voice softening slightly, though still firm) I'll be back soon.
With that, he left the haveli, the sound of the door closing behind him echoing in the silence. Tae watched him leave before turning her attention to the maids and servants who continued their work.
