Seven months later....
The Jeon haveli was buzzing with activity. Bright marigold garlands adorned every pillar, while lanterns cast a warm glow across the intricate stone walls. The air was filled with laughter, chatter, and the occasional scolding of servants as they hurried to complete last-minute tasks.
The godh bharai function was a grand affair, and the entire haveli reflected the joyous anticipation of welcoming a new member into the family.
Dadi-sa, standing near the central courtyard, was barking orders at the staff.
Dadi-sa- Where is the rangoli? Why hasn’t it been completed yet? (she snapped, her sharp voice echoing through the halls)
The servants hurried about, beads of sweat forming on their foreheads as they tried to meet her high expectations.
In the middle of her tirade, Dadi-sa suddenly halted as a thought struck her. Turning to a nearby servant, she asked,
Dadi-sa- Where is Jungkook's Gharwali?
Before the servant could reply, Dadi-sa raised her voice, loud enough to be heard across the haveli.
Dadi-sa- Tae! Where are you? Come here immediately!
In the kitchen, Tae had just settled down in the kitchen for lunch. Her plate was filled with simple meal– one bhakri, sabzi and dal.
She had barely lifted a bite to her mouth when Dadi-sa’s commanding voice reached her ears. She flinched, her appetite vanishing instantly.
With a resigned sigh, she placed her plate back on the counter and wiped her hands.
Tae- Can’t a person even eat in peace? (she muttered under her breath, before making her way toward Dadi-sa)
As she approached, Dadi-sa glared at her.
Dadi-sa- Why do you take so long to come when I call you; huh? (she demanded, her tone cutting)
Tae- I’m sorry, Dadi-sa. (she replied softly, her gaze fixed on the ground)
Dadi-sa huffed.
Dadi-sa- Stop wasting time with apologies. Go to Sumi’s room and make her presentable. It’s her godh bharai. She must look the best among all the women here. Do you understand?
Tae- Ji, Dadi-sa. (she answered, nodding obediently)
Without another word, she turned and walked toward Sumi’s room.
When she reached the door, she knocked lightly, hesitant to disturb Sumi. The door creaked open, and Jung-guk stood there, his expression hard. His eyes narrowed as he saw Tae.
Guk- What do you want? (he asked rudely, his voice dripping with irritation)
Tae- Dadi-sa sent me. (she replied calmly) She asked me to help Sumi get ready for the function.
Jung-guk rolled his eyes dramatically before stepping aside to let her in.
Tae entered the room and saw Sumi seated on the bed, gently caressing her baby bump. Her face, though youthful, bore the signs of exhaustion. The weight of her delicate age, combined with the physical toll of pregnancy and the emotional neglect from her husband, was evident.
Tae’s heart ached at the sight. Smiling softly, she walked over and knelt beside Sumi, placing a gentle hand on her cheek.
Tae- How are you feeling, Sumi?
