The grand clock in the courtyard struck ten, its chime echoing through the silent household.

But Jungkook had still not returned.

Tae sat on the edge of the large wooden bed, her hands unconsciously resting on her slightly rounded belly. Her heart felt uneasy, a sensation she couldn't quite shake off.

Jung-guk, Sumi, and the children had also not returned yet.

The house, which was usually bustling with voices, felt eerily silent tonight.

Jiminee, who had insisted on staying with Tae, had long fallen asleep, curled up comfortably on the bed. The flickering glow of the oil lamp cast soft shadows on the walls, giving the room an almost dreamlike quality.

Tae shifted slightly, feeling a low grumble in her stomach.

She let out a soft sigh before fake-scolding her unborn child, rubbing her belly lightly.

Tae- Are you planning to make me even fatter, huh? (she whispered) I just had dinner, and you're already hungry again?

A small smile played on her lips as she shook her head at herself.

Giving in to the persistent hunger, she quietly stood up and draped a shawl over her shoulders before stepping out of the bedroom. The corridors were dimly lit, the soft golden glow of lanterns providing just enough light to guide her path.

As she descended the wooden staircase, she spotted Jasoda Kaki and Raghu Kaka, both seated on a cushioned bench in the courtyard.

Jasoda Kaki, who was sipping on a cup of warm milk, noticed Tae approaching and immediately sat up.

Jasoda- Sethani, what happened? Do you need something? (she asked with concern)

Tae offered a small smile, shaking her head.

Tae- I just wanted to get a glass of milk, Kaki.

Jasoda Kaki's brows furrowed slightly before she sighed.

Jasoda- Why did you come all the way down, Bitiya? You could have called me. Wait here. I'll prepare it for you.

Before Tae could protest, Jasoda Kaki stood up and walked toward the kitchen.

Tae let out a small chuckle before settling down on the bench beside Raghu Kaka, who was quietly observing the entire exchange.

Just as she was about to say something, a sudden knock echoed through the courtyard.

Tae stiffened.

Her eyes snapped toward the main entrance, her heart racing.

She immediately stood up, her hands clenching the ends of her shawl.

Tae- I think Sa is back! (she exclaimed, hurrying toward the door before Raghu Kaka could stop her)

With a hopeful heart, she pulled open the heavy wooden doors-only to freeze in place.

Jungkook wasn't there.

Instead, standing in the dim lantern light was a neighbouring woman.

Her face was pale, her expression laced with visible worry and hesitation.

"Tae Bhabhi-sa..." the woman's voice trembled. "Jungkook Bhai-sa... he-he got into an accident!"

The world around Tae tilted.

Her breath caught in her throat, her fingers instinctively clutching the doorframe for support.

The weight of the woman's words felt suffocating.
