Jungkook sat in his dimly lit office, his fingers drumming lightly against the polished wooden desk as his lawyer, Shekhawat, meticulously scanned the stack of documents before him. The heavy silence in the room was punctuated only by the occasional rustle of paper and the flickering flame of the lamp that cast long shadows across the walls.
After what felt like an eternity, Shekhawat finally exhaled and placed the papers down, looking up at Jungkook with a determined glint in his eyes.
Shekhawat- These documents are strong, Jungkook. They prove financial fraud, illegal land dealings, and misuse of power. (he said, pushing his spectacles up the bridge of his nose) They will serve our purpose well, but... (he hesitated, choosing his next words carefully)
Jungkook leaned forward, his dark eyes narrowing.
Jk- But what?
Shekhawat sighed.
Shekhawat- If we could get solid proof of Sarpanch's involvement in the opium and land trade as well, then it won't just be a case of removal from power-he'll rot in prison for the rest of his life.
Jungkook sat back in his chair, running a hand through his hair. He already knew this.
Jk- I've been searching for that proof for months, Shekhawat. This is the only evidence I could get for now. (he admitted, frustration lacing his voice. He tapped a finger on the desk, deep in thought) Still... I'll see if I can dig deeper. There has to be a way.
Shekhawat nodded in understanding.
Shekhawat- I trust you, but there's something else that's been bothering me, Jungkook.
Jungkook arched a brow.
Jk- What is it?
The lawyer clasped his hands together and leaned forward.
Shekhawat- Why haven't you reached out to the Governor yet? A demotion of an honest officer like you is unacceptable. If the higher authorities get involved, they might revoke it immediately.
Jungkook let out a dry chuckle, shaking his head.
Jk- What do you think, Shekhawat? That I would just sit quietly and accept this demotion without a fight? (his voice carried a sharp edge, his jaw tightening) There's major corruption going on within the lower system itself. I've sent letters to the Governor multiple times, but I haven't received a single response.
Shekhawat's brows furrowed.
Shekhawat- That is highly unusual. Someone must be intercepting them.
Jungkook nodded grimly.
Jk- I wouldn't be surprised. And I have my suspicions.
The lawyer exhaled.
Shekhawat- Let me guess... Park Seojoon?
Jk- Exactly. Ever since he was appointed as the new District Collector, he has been extremely close to the Sarpanch. Too close. His actions are too well-aligned with the corruption that's happening under our noses.
Shekhawat crossed his arms, deep in thought.
Shekhawat- That does make sense. If he's working with the Sarpanch, then it would explain why your letters never reached the Governor. The two of them could be controlling the chain of command, ensuring that no complaints about them ever make it to higher authorities.
Jungkook's fingers curled into fists.
Jk- I need to expose them. Soon.
Shekhawat gave him a firm nod.
