The late morning sun poured golden rays through the windshield of the black Ambassador as it hummed along the highway. Flanked by mustard fields and flocks of birds occasionally slicing the sky, the road stretched endlessly ahead of them, dust curling beneath the tires. The wind teased the corner of Tae's dupatta, fluttering it gently across her shoulder.

Tae sat beside Jungkook in the passenger seat, her elbow resting on the rolled-down window, hair tied loosely, a small bindi dotting her forehead. She had a sparkle in her eyes-one that had nothing to do with the road trip and everything to do with the precious secret she was carrying close to her heart.

A secret she had been holding on to for just the right moment.

Jungkook, dressed in a crisp beige kurta and dark sunglasses, kept his eyes focused on the road. One hand on the steering wheel, the other tapping lightly against it in rhythm to the distant hum of an old Lata Mangeshkar song playing on the radio.

They were on their way to the city-to bring their niece, Jiminee, back home. Unbeknownst to her, a family from the neighboring town was coming with a proposal. Jungkook wanted this visit to be a surprise for her.

But Tae's mind wasn't entirely on Jiminee today.

Her hand gently brushed her stomach-not yet visible, but silently blooming. Her smile deepened with the memory of Daima's words from just a day ago. She was going to tell Jungkook tomorrow, on his birthday. And she had even imagined the perfect moment to do so.

But, of course, he had no plans for his birthday. Typical Jungkook.

He'd nonchalantly declared, "We'll get Jiminee tomorrow and head back. That way, I can resume my meetings by Friday."

Tae had nearly groaned at that.

Now, she turned toward him with a hopeful glint.

Tae- Sa... can we have tomorrow's day only to ourselves? Just you and me... I want to spend some time with you alone.

Jungkook's brows twitched, eyes still on the road.

Jk- Tae, we're here to pick up Jiminee, not for some honeymoon in the city. I'm already swamped with pending work. You're talking about spending the whole day? It's not possible.

The light in Tae's face dimmed a little. She looked away, arms folded, staring out of the window now. The fields were no longer bright yellow. They just looked... flat.

Jungkook noticed. He sighed, brushing a hand through his hair.

Jk- Don't be like this now.

She spoke softly, but with unmistakable bite,

Tae- Why did you even become a Commissioner, huh? You were better when you were a Collector. At least back then, you had time for me. You were even... romantic. But now? Now you can't even spare one day for your wife.

That made him glance at her-sideways, amused.

Jk- So madam is complaining? (he asked, arching an eyebrow)

Tae turned sharply toward him, eyes narrowed.

Tae- Yes, I am complaining. I'm very upset with you, Sa. Don't talk to me. I won't talk to you either.

Jungkook smirked and laughed under his breath.

Jk- Wash! Thank God. My ears can finally rest in peace. No more lectures.

Her mouth dropped open.

Tae- You're horrible! You are so bad. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you! (she cried, and began lightly punching his arm with her fists, though careful not to distract him too much from the road)
