The Jeon Haveli glowing under the soft light of oil lamps and adorned with garlands of marigold and rose for Sumi’s godh bharai function. The air was festive, with guests beginning to arrive, the clinking of bangles and the aroma of freshly prepared delicacies filling the atmosphere.
Dadi-sa, overseeing the arrangements, called out to Tae.
Dadi-sa- Tae! Go and bring Sumi from her room. It’s time she joins us in the living room.
Tae- Ji, Dadi-sa. (she replied softly, bowing her head slightly)
She adjusted her dupatta and made her way toward Sumi’s room.
Upon entering, she found her cousin sitting by the window, her hands resting gently on her growing belly, a serene smile on her face.
Tae approached her with a warm smile.
Tae- Sumi, it’s time. Everyone is waiting for you downstairs. (she said gently, holding out her hand to help her stand)
Sumi took her hand and rose slowly, her movements careful. Tae placed an arm around her shoulder, supporting her as they walked to the living room, which was transformed into a celebration of motherhood.
A chair, beautifully decorated with soft cushions and floral garlands, awaited Sumi at the center of the room.
Tae guided Sumi to the chair and helped her sit down. As Sumi settled in, Tae knelt beside her, brushing a strand of hair away from her cousin’s face.
Tae- You look beautiful, Sumi. (she said with a smile, caressing her cheek lovingly)
The room began to fill with more guests, their laughter and chatter creating a lively atmosphere.
Jiminee, who had been flitting between Tae and Jungkook like a little butterfly, suddenly spotted Sumi. Her eyes lit up, and she ran toward her, calling out cheerfully,
Jm- Sumi Mami-sa!
Sumi’s face brightened as she saw the little girl approach. She smiled, placing a hand on Jiminee’s cheek.
Sumi- Jiminee... (she greeted warmly) you look so pretty today.
Jiminee giggled, her gaze fixed on Sumi’s belly. She touched it lightly with her tiny hand and asked in a curious tone,
Jm- Is there a baby here?
Before Sumi could answer, a loud, angry yell echoed through the haveli, silencing the room. Everyone turned toward the source of the commotion, and there stood Jung-guk, his face contorted with anger as he saw Jiminee near Sumi.
Guk- You filthy little bitch! (he spat, storming toward the child) Stay away from her!
His hand shot up, aiming to slap Jiminee, but it stopped mid-air, caught in a vise-like grip.
The room gasped in unison as Jungkook stepped forward, his hand gripping Jung-guk’s wrist with iron strength, his eyes blazing with fury.
Jk- How dare you? (he growled, his voice low and dangerous)
Jung-guk tried to pull free, but Jungkook shoved him backward, gripping his collar.
Jk- How dare you raise your hand on her? (he roared)
Jiminee, who had been frozen in fear, began to tremble, tears welling up in her eyes. Tae rushed to her side, scooping her up into her arms. The little girl buried her face in Tae’s shoulder, sobbing softly.
