"Mommy, mommy, mommy!" The little brown haired girl bounced into the kitchen.
"Hope, Hope, Hope!" Valerie turned around from the sink and greeted her daughter just as eagerly. She was busy cleaning up the dishes that had been left in the sink from the previous night's supper.
Hope giggled. "Can you pleaseeeeee teach me today?" She begged.
Valerie smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Teach you what my child?" She feigned ignorance.
"Mommy." Hope whined. "You know. Pleaseeee." Valerie saw that she was holding onto her lightsaber. Valerie remembered hiding it in a draw, away from her daughter's prying hands.
She placed the sponge on the counter next to the sink, and pulled the towel from her shoulder to dry her hands off. "Where did you find this Hope? You know that is not a toy. That is a weapon that can very seriously hurt you-"
"And kill me if mistreated, I know." Hope finished her mother's warning. "But I'm ready to learn how to start using it please. You've told me yourself that you handle one much younger than me."
"And I probably shouldn't have." Valerie strolled over to her, plucking the lightsaber out of her daughter's hands. "You just had your seventh birthday, don't go growing up on me too fast."
"I try not to grow up too fast but it's not my fault the days are quick." Hope looked down at her feet.
Valerie smiled and leaned down, kissing the top of her head. "I know sweetheart." She looked up at the door right at Hope turned as well. "Quick, who's coming?"
Hope closed her eyes and smiled. "Omega!"
There was a knock on the door.
"Val! You in there?" Omega's voice echoed through their domicile.
"Good girl." Valerie praised her daughter and walked over to the door. She opened it and Valerie saw the teenage girl balancing on the balls of her heels. "What can we do for you Omega?" Hope ducked from behind her mom.
"Omega!" Hope happily hugged the older girl.
"Lyana and I were gonna go play in the water today." Omega pointed behind her, to the water. "Hunter said there's gonna be a heatwave today. I wanted to see if Hope wanted to join in."
Hope's smile grew wider and she turned to her mother, bouncing up and down. "Please? Please? Pleaseeeeeee? Can I go play with Omega and Lyana?"
"Of course you can sweetheart." Valerie chuckled. "But not too deep please."
"Thank you!" Hope hugged her side and quickly left with Omega as they bounced down the stairs.
Valerie smiled as she watched them skip away. "Stars they grow up too kriffing fast." She sighed and walked back into her home. Looking around she was alone now, holding the lightsaber in her hand the metal was cool against her fingertips. She hadn't used her blade since... well since...
"I'm no hero. I'm a Jedi."
Tantiss.
The thought sent a shiver down her spine and a rogue tear rolled down her cheek. After Tantiss she essentially retired her lightsaber to its very own draw in her and Tech's room. She hadn't touched it, or even thought about it in about under five years. That is until her daughter started learning how to talk and inquiring about her very special heritage. Ever since she found out what a lightsaber was to a Jedi she has been eager to learn how to use it.
She ignited the lightsaber. The gray glow shined brightly in her home. Years... years it's been since she's seen the familiar glow. "Younglings. Our weapons, our lives they are. Understand the importance of them we must." An old lesson from the past danced in her mind. You're right Master Yoda... I can't keep her from this... her destiny.
