Nighttime had fallen on Pabu. The creatures were more quiet than usual. There were three girls walking along the beach, but one of them paused to look up at her home one more time.
"Come on. Don't get left behind." The youngest one whispered.
The girl adjusted her satchel and continued on her trek. They all climbed into the cavern that everyone frequented many times before.
The group jumped off the rocks and saw the ship in the distance. One of the girls walked up to the light and switched it on. The other lights turning on as well. Batcher sat up and they saw someone waiting for them.
The door opened to the ship and Gonky appeared. Omega saw it was Hunter and shook her head smiling. Valerie patted Hope's shoulder as the girls climbed over the rocks.
"Thought you girls could just sneak off?" Hunter asked. "Time hasn't dulled all my senses."
Omega and Hope looked at Valerie who smiled at the girls. She walked over first and sat down next to him. "You know, you really can't tell me what to do. I've always outranked you."
"I suppose so." Hunter laughed. "I just didn't expect you to be leaving with them."
"They're going into dangerous waters." Valerie sighed. "I have to make sure they'll be alright. I won't be gone forever."
"And what does Tech have to say in all of this?" He asked her.
"He wants me home before dinner." The two of them shared a laugh. "But don't worry, I'm keeping him busy with a project."
"A project?" Hunter raised an eyebrow.
"Mhmm." Valerie nodded. "I bet him he couldn't make his prosthetics fly, so we'll see how that goes."
"You're terrible." Hunter laughed.
Valerie smiled. "I'll take care of them Hunter. For as long as I can."
Hunter nodded and Valerie patted his shoulder before getting up. She walked away and another girl ran up behind him, hugging his backside.
"I'll see you later Uncle Hunter." Hope hugged him tight.
Hunter chuckled and patted her arms. "You have to be extra careful. The target is going to be a lot bigger on your back than most."
"Ugh." Hope scoffed. "You sound like Uncle Cross."
"We worry." Hunter stated.
"I know you do." She leaned over his shoulder and smiled at him. He looked into her big brown eyes again. They were so much like Tech's. "Take care of dad for me. Believe me or not but I think he might go crazy with both mom and I leaving."
"I will." Hunter nodded. "As long as you take care of yourself out there."
"I will." Hope hugged him one more time before standing up. "May the force be with you Uncle Hunter." Hope walked back to her mother and she wrapped her arm around her daughter's shoulder.
The last girl walked up to Hunter and sat down next to him. "This shouldn't be a surprise." Omega sat down next to him. "The Rebellion needs pilots now more than ever, and they need Jedi even more." Hunter sighed and she looked at him. "I made my choice, Hunter. I want to do more. Hope and I both want to do more."
"And we want to keep you safe." He stated and looked at her.
"You have." Omega chuckled. "But I'm not a kid anymore. You don't have to worry about me."
"You're our kid, Omega." Hunter said. "You always will be."
Omega looked at her hands. "Hunter, you've all fought enough." She scooted closer to him. "This? It's my fight. I'm ready." She placed a hand on his shoulder before standing up.
Hunter sighed again. "Yea, I know you are." He paused. "But I'm not." He stood up.
Omega looked at Hunter before she hugged him. He hugged her back. "And keep an eye on Wrecker and Crosshair while I'm gone. Tech and Batcher too."
"Off you go." Hunter nodded.
Omega walked back up to Hope and Valerie. Batcher stopped them and of course Omega and Hope had to say their goodbyes to the Lurca hound. The girls turned towards, but before they boarded Hunter stopped them. "Hey, if you ever need us, we'll be there." Omega nodded and climbed on board, followed by Hope.
Valerie looked at Hunter one more time the two of them nodded to each other and she saluted him before climbing on board last. Omega had thrown her bag into a spare chair and ran over to the pilot's seat. Hope ran up behind her. Her satchel still attached to her hip.
Omega sat down and grabbed the broken goggles. She handed them to Hope. "Tech would want you to have these now."
Hope smiled and grabbed them. "Thank you, Omega." She put the goggles on and rested them around her neck. Valerie had climbed on board as Omega worked on getting the ship up and running.
Hunter looked at Omega one more time who saluted him. In return Hunter did the same. He watched the girls take off in Omega's ship. Batcher was whining and Hunter patted her. "It's alright girl." Hunter walked over to the master controls and flipped a switch. The lights turned off one by one. "They'll be fine."
