It was december.. he was home.. it was a sunday..

K : maa

Mom : chai rakhi hai dining pe

He got the chai and rushed to the kitchen..

His mother was putting the water on gas stove for rice.. the rice was sitting in the bowl for a rinsing.. his tea was hot.. his mother's was also..

He went ahead and rinsed the rice under the sink..

Mom : aree.. abhi 10 minutes lagega water boil hone Mai..

K : take your tea maa.. unlike me you like it too hot..

He smiled at her.. he knew how much his mother loved having him or Meenu or poonam around.. she literally ran around the house when any of the kids were home..

She smiled and sipped the tea.. it was morning 8:30.. usually he would come down by 9 but today he was early..  his mom noticed that..

K : bas dal chawal kafi hai maa..

He said as he set the rinsed rice aside and he did notice the vegetables in the bowl..

Mom : kyu..

His mother was offended... Hardly few days she got with her kids .. those are the days she got new energy to run around..

K ; only we both ... Papa gone for his mandali union feast .. remember?

Mom : so what .

K : lao.. I'll chop the vegetables..

Mom : no need.. you already cook a lot by yourself..

She said somberly.... No matter how old the child become , a mother's heart always wanted to nurture for the kid .

Even if poonam was married for almost 13 years still his mother felt how bad it's that she needs to work and handle everything...

K : toh.. ma I'm 28.. i need to manage myself .

He was mature enough to omit how many times he had to manage with canteen food or outing for dinner.

Mom : hmm.. you can't swich here ?? Transfer or anything like that..

He nodded his head but tbh he didn't know. life was just moving smoothly but something was amiss for sure.. slowly he realised it's the distance..

Both of them kept going back and forth between delhi , Bangalore and Mumbai.. the hustle bustle of the city .. early morning flights were depressing such as the exciting late night ones..

K : utna easy toh hai nahi .. but..

He prolonged the last part a Lil more..

Mom : kya..

K : if someone else is there..

Mom : then

He didn't know how to say it..

K : i mean .. making a meal for one feels like a waste of time somedays.. if someone else would be there it would be easier...

Mom : roommate..?? Toh apne kisi friend se poochle..

He sighed.. his mom was genuinely clueless..

K : maa..

He didn't have words ..

Maa : kya haii..

K : if I needed a roommate I would have gotten one already..

Mom : then..

It took her few seconds to register.. he looked hopefully...

Mom : toh you want a live-in kind of thing?
