'You have to just relax, okay? The trick is to relax and not lose focus.'
'You can't be focused if you're trying to relax! It doesn't work both ways.'
Dean laughed quietly; his body just touching mine. 'It won't work if you have that attitude.'
'Well, you're not exactly making this any easier...' I breathed.
Dean's fingers brushed hair away from my neck before resting his face just behind my ear. 'You have to be ready for any position you're in.'
I scoffed. 'This is unlikely to be one of them.'
I felt Dean's hands move to rest on my hips, turning them slightly so that my back was flush with his front. 'Stop trying to avoid this. You've got to do it sometime.'
I sighed. 'I know. It's just...difficult.'
'I'm right here. I won't leave you.' His words couldn't have been more truthful.
Through the previous three months, Dean hadn't left my side. The damage Kyle had done to my wrist luckily wasn't severe, leaving it only fractured. That meant that, whilst the boys went on hunts, defending the world from the supernatural creatures that hid under the beds, I stayed with Bobby doing research. Three months, and a lot of breakfasts in bed, thanks to Dean, I was out in Bobby's yard, trying to learn how to shoot a gun.
Squinting my eyes, I pulled the trigger. I sighed in annoyance, letting my arms fall to my sides as I looked towards the target; the bullet on the furthest corner of the wood. 'Tom Cruise always makes this look so damn easy.'
Dean gave a hearty laugh as he looked across at the target from over my shoulder. 'Well, you did better than Sammy when he took his first shot.'
'Wasn't Sam like five?'
'Four actually.' I turned round, huffing a sigh of disappointment which Dean noticed immediately. 'Do you really want to go out on a hunt that bad?'
'That's what I used to do!' At Dean's amused look, I rolled my eyes. 'Obviously burning the bones of a ghost wasn't my usual job but I was out there, doing things.'
'You mean picking hunters off one by one?' he asked; the humour in his eyes there but only just.
'Actually it was cheating hunters of their earnings in a game of hustle.'
Dean's eyes warmed bringing a smile to his lips. 'That's right...' He walked closer to me so that his body was just bushing against mine. 'You owe me at least $100,' he said with a glint in his eye.
'I thought that was payment for saving your life,' I replied, tilting my head up as I gave Dean an innocent smile.
'Oh, sweetheart, I'm worth more than that.' His smile turned to a smirk as he leaned his head down towards mine.
'Then perhaps we can come to some sort of arrangement,' I whispered, turning my head slightly so that Dean's lips were just an inch from mine.
'I think that's doable.'
Our lips brushed against each other, teasing. It wasn't like we had never kissed before. There actually wasn't a lot we hadn't done; something that neither Sam nor Bobby were too pleased about. You would have thought that becoming a human would have made my feelings for Dean more real, deeper even. But nothing had changed. It was obvious that, despite being a demon, Dean had truly won me over. Not that he would ever know that.
'Dean!'
Dean growled in irritation, pulling away from me slightly to see Sam sticking his head out from the back door. 'Bobby found a case.'
