When you're immersed in a deep sleep, you cannot tell whether a sound is in your dream or in real life. So, naturally, when I heard a faint rumbling by my ear, I simply turned over and ignored it. For the first three times. Yet, when I was just starting to wake up, the vibrating stopped as though it had never happened.
I remember opening my eyes to see why the noise had stopped but the second I saw a blurry figure standing at the end of my double bed with a small smile on their lips, I knew that I was dreaming. Closing my eyes and reaching blindly for the pillow beside me, I placed it over my eyes and resumed my sleep.
*
An excruciating pain from my right kneecap shocked me awake. I shot upright in bed, causing the pillow that rested on top to fly halfway across the duvet before I pulled it from my body to examine the cause. I winced as I turned over my leg; eyes widening at the sight of a large gash running down the side of my right calf.
I dragged a sweaty hand through my hair as I tried to remember the previous night. Flashes of conversations with my friends popped into my head but nothing that would have caused the wound was triggered.
'Nasty little bugger, isn't it?' came a voice from the door causing me to look up, only to meet Kol's penetrating eyes which were fixed on the slash. 'I could smell it all the way from downstairs.
I continued to stare at the Original for a moment, attempting to conjure up the reason as to why Kol Mikaelson, my long-term crush and the guy that I hadn't spoken to for three months, was standing in my room.
The ghost of his ever present smirk became corporeal as he watched me in my attempts. 'Drank that much, did we, darling?' he purred.
I rolled my eyes as I dragged my hand through my hair again. 'Obviously you know more about this,' I said, gesturing to my wound, 'than I do. So, why don't you do us both a favour and tell me what you know so that you can leave me in peace.'
At my words, the Original smirked as he wondered round my room, letting his fingers touch every inch of my furniture. 'Let's just say it was a rough night,' he replied, turning to me to wiggle his brows before he turned back to my vanity table.
Rolling my eyes again, I leant forward to inspect the wound, ignoring Kol moving about my room. 'Seriously, Kol. If you know anything, now would be a great time to spill.'
'Now, why would I do that? Takes all the fun out of the torturing and blackmail process.' I didn't even need to look up to know that he was smirking whilst he spoke.
I gave an exasperated sigh, slamming my hands against the bed before whipping my head round to Kol who had arrived beside my bed. 'For God's sake; what will it take for you to tell me everything that happened last night?'
Kol kept my stare for what felt like hours till a large grin appeared on his lips. He lowered himself onto the bed before leaning closer to me. 'I want you to beg, darling.'
I couldn't help but scoff. 'Yeah. Because that's going to happen,' I laughed as I swivelled myself round on my bed so that I could get out from the opposite side to Kol. 'Be realistic Kol,' I said, turning my head slightly over my shoulder to speak to him. 'I wouldn't beg you even if th-'
The second I stood up and put the weight on my right leg, I fell to the wooden floorboards with a gasp of pain. I bit my lip in attempt to contain the burning sensation that was shooting up my leg. In a heartbeat, Kol was beside me with a concerned look on his face. I tried to push him away yet he ignored my efforts. Instead, he placed one of his arms underneath my legs whilst the other was on my back before lifting me effortlessly into his arms.
