I heard them as soon as I opened the door, the unmistakeable sound of their fighting. There was nothing I wanted to do more than turn around and go back to Luke's, weird behavior and all. Which speaking of, his hand was still in mine, well the hand that wasn't now casted. I was still a little bitter he forced me to go to the doctors, it would've been fine eventually.

"She ran out because you showed up! Why is it so hard to understand she wants nothing to do with you! Neither of us want anything to do with you!" My mother's voice carried heavily down the hall, my entire body tensing instantly.

"Lily, calm down."

"I will not calm down! You walked out on her when she was ten, you haven't been apart of her life for eight years! Eight years, Mark, eight years of her life she has gone without a father."

"I've tried to come back."

"No, you haven't! You show up whenever its convenient for you! You don't care about her!"

"Thats not true Lily."

"The hell it isn't. All she's ever wanted was an apology! She thought you left because of her! She thought she did something wrong! When she found out you had a completely different family she broke! She still blames herself, Mark! She thinks she wasn't good enough for you, she wasn't the daughter you wanted so you went to have another!"

"I had Allison after Cara."

"Like that makes a different!" We were hidden around the corner, anxiety setting in and preventing me from walking around the corner. I only remembered Luke was next to me because of his hand in mine. That and the fact he made sure he was as close to me as he could get, his shoulder pressed against mine, hip jutting out to rest against my side, any kind of contact he could make he did. His behavior was really throwing me off, and it was beginning to bug me, but I had other things to deal with. "You had two more kids with that woman! I'm sorry, Mark, but I don't think she's ever going to forgive you."

I pulled myself from the wall, Luke squeezing my hand reassuringly before I pulled him with me around the corner. He made sure to stay close, placing a hand on my back as soon as I had stopped to stand in the doorway, my father three feet in front of me. My mothers eyes softened when she saw me, my father turning around and smiling brightly once he saw me.

"Al, I was worried about you. I saw you run off last night after I left." He kept the ridiculous smile on his face as he glanced up at Luke. "It's good to see you son." He held out his hand, expecting Luke to take it. Even I was surprised when he didn't.

"Sir." Was all he said, a slight nod of his head in acknowledgment. My father awkwardly brought his hand down, shoving it into his pocket, the smile finally leaving his face.

"Anyway, I wanted to talk to you Al. I know you didn't want to yesterday, but I was hoping you'd be better today."

"Better?" I asked, squeezing Luke's hand to try and release some of the anger building within me without blowing up on my father.

"Your attitude yesterday was uncalled for."

My attitude? Are you shitting me?

I scoffed, Luke's hand gripping my waist lightly as I practically cut the circulation off from squeezing his other hand so hard. "The only things uncalled for are your unannounced visits. Nobody wants you here so just leave already."

"Al, don't be rude."

"You can't boss me around! I thought I made it clear you lost any rights acting as my father once you chose that gold digging bitch over us! You may be my biological father, but you have absolutely no right to act as my dad."
