Chapter 10: Quitting
Colton's POV
"Excuse me?" My mom asked, looking at me.
"You could've told me that before I bought you a new surfboard!" My dad whined and my mom slapped his chest.
"You are not quitting surfing." My mom said.
"Yes I am!" I protested.
"Brayden, Colton will call you later." My mom said, pushing me to the car. I opened the door and got in the backseat, crossing my arms over my chest.
"We're not done talking about this." My mom said as my dad started to pull away.
"There's nothing to talk about!" I grumbled. We got home and I went up to my room, trying to slam the door but remembering some psycho bitch removed it. I flopped down on my bed and groaned.
"Why the hell do you want to quit surfing?" My mom asked, standing in my door way.
"I don't want to do it anymore, okay?"
"Why not?"
"I just don't!"
"Colton, talk to us." My dad tried.
"No. There is nothing to talk about!" I exclaimed. They sighed and left.
Brandon's POV
"Hey Brandon, what are you doing here?" My dad asked, opening his door to find me on his porch.
"Camryn needs us to talk to Colton."
"Teenagers, joy." He laughed. "Babe! I'm heading to Camryn's, I'll be back!" He called and closed the door. We walked out to my car and got in, driving to Chris and Camryn's house. We got out and knocked on the door. Camryn opened the door and smiled.
"Thank god!" She exclaimed.
"What's up?" I asked as we walked into the house.
"Colton wants to quit surfing."
"Dear lord." I sighed. "Alright, we can go talk to him."
"Thank you so much!" She exclaimed, hugging the both of us. "Just go up to his room." She said and we nodded. We walked up and turned the corner, expecting to come face to face with his door, but instead we could see into his room. I stepped in and looked at the empty space where the door was supposed to be.
"Where the hell did your door go?" I asked.
"My mom took it off. She thinks I'm going to cut myself." He grumbled. I let out a sigh.
"How the hell are you supposed to jack off?" My dad asked.
"Dad!" I exclaimed.
"What!" I rolled my eyes and sat at the edge of Colton's bed.
"So, what's going on?" I asked.
"I'm quitting surfing."
"Why?" My dad asked.
"I don't want to do it anymore."
"But you loved surfing."
"Yeah, loved."
"What caused this sudden change?" I asked. He got silent and stared at the wall. "Colton?"
"I almost killed my best friend." He said quietly, not breaking his gaze with the wall.
"But Brayden is all better now." I said and he shook his head.
"That's not the point! I forced him to go out with me and it almost killed him."
"Well now you know not to surf when there's a storm."
"But what if it's a shark next time, or a strong wave that drowns him or carries him away? What if next time it's not him? What if it's me or a future girlfriend or wife? What if it's my future kids? What if it's Caitlyn?" He asked, getting real quiet.
"Yes, there are some risks, but every hobby has risks." My dad said.
"Brayden plays video games. You don't drown playing video games."
"Eye problems, carpel tunnel, getting fat and living in your mom's basement." I chuckled.
"I hurt myself plenty of times on tour. Shit happens. You overcome it and move on." My dad said.
"I just don't want to hurt Brayden again."
"Colton, shit is going to happen. Brayden may even hurt himself. You're only a teenager once, enjoy it!" I exclaimed. "I was told your dad bought you a new board. Get your wet suit on and I'll take you to the beach." I suggested.
"I don't know."
"Come on!" My dad said. "I wanna see your skills!"
"Fine." He said, getting up. We walked out and down the stairs.
"How'd it go?" Camryn asked, standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"We're taking him to the beach."
"Really?" She asked.
"Yup. He's giving surfing another chance."
"Wow, thank you so much." She said, hugging both of us.
"No problem." We said.
Colton's POV
"Thank you." I said as my grandpa dragged my surfboard out of his car.
"No problem Colton. You're not quitting surfing, right?"
"Definitely not, I love it too much." I said, clutching my surfboard.
"I'm glad." I smiled, kissing the top of his head. "I'll see you later." He said.
"Bye!" I called as I walked into the open garage and placed my surfboard against the wall. I closed the garage and walked into the house. I walked upstairs and smiled when I saw the door closed. I walked in and stripped from my wet suit, putting on dry clothes and flopping onto my bed, smiling.
