Chapter 38: And It Cuts Like A Gun
Brayden's POV
"Hey Bryce, do you want to head over to McDonalds after school?"
"Sure, is Colton coming?" He asked and I shook my head.
"I just can't really be around him right now?" I said.
"Why?" Bryce asked.
"Hey guys." Colton smiled as he walked up to us, holding Jennifer's hand.
"I should get to class. See ya." I said and walked off.
Cassie's POV
"Hey, so can you come over today? I really need to talk to you." I asked Amanda while we were in art.
"Sure." She smiled as Colton and Jennifer walked into the room.
"Hey guys." Colton smiled as they sat down.
"Hey." We said. We continued to talk about our after school plans.
"Cassie, why don't you invite Jennifer to hang out with you guys?" Colton suggested.
"Sure, if she wants to." I said, looking at Jennifer.
"Why not." She shrugged.
"Good. I think it'd be good for the three of you to get to know each other better." Colton smiled.
"Yeah." I said. Great, today is going to suck.
Brayden's POV
Bryce and I found an empty table in McDonalds and sat down with our food. We started eating and I tapped my foot.
"So why can't you be around Colton right now?" Bryce asked.
"He's such an ass."
"What do you mean?"
"Ever since Jennifer moved here, he's changed. He's become more distant from his friends, I never see him without her anymore. For god sakes, he knew her for a week before he started dating her!"
"Ooh is someone jealous?" Bryce smirked. I hung my head. "Oh my god, you really are jealous." He said and I nodded.
"I can't help it. She's smart and funny and beautiful. It's not fair that Colton gets her!"
"Why don't you just tell Colton how you feel dude?"
"I can't. I don't want to just throw away our friendship again. Our friendship is so much more important than a girl. But, I'm afraid I'm going to lose him either way."
"He's not going to abandon us for some girl. He's just love struck right now. He'll grow out of it and then he'll be back to the same Colton we know. I just feel bad for Cassie. You know she's like head over heels in love with him, right?"
"Oh yeah. It's so obvious to everyone except for Colton."
"Colton likes her, I think Jennifer is just a cover up because he's scared." Bryce said and I agreed.
Cassie's POV
"Jennifer! You coming?" I asked as Amanda and I stood on the sidewalk of the school.
"Nah, I don't feel like it." She said, walking past us and onto her bus. I shrugged as Amanda and I got onto my bus, finding a seat. We rode to my house and walked up to my room.
"I can't believe that bitch!" I groaned, closing my door as Amanda sat down.
" 'I don't feel like it.' What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Amanda questioned.
"I have no idea but she's getting on my last nerve. Colton has been abandoning us for...for that slut! He's been totally ignoring us and then shoving her in our faces! This isn't how it's supposed to be! He's supposed to be with me and we're supposed to live happily ever after! I fucking hate this!" I broke down crying, sitting on my bed.
"So you finally admit it?" Amanda smirked.
"Yes. I like Colton. I really do. I believe I'm a better fit for him than Jennifer." I wiped my tears.
"I agree."
"I just like him so much and it hurts that he doesn't see me the same way." I sniffled and tried to wipe away my tears but they kept coming. Amanda scooted closer to me and hugged me tightly.
"It's okay. I'm sure him and Jennifer aren't going to last too long. He'll be back to normal before we know it."
"Thanks." I smiled, continuing to wipe my eyes with the back of my hands.
