Chapter 144: Casey Riley Longsworth

Colton's POV

*Eight Months Later*

"Dad, would you like to cut the cord?" The nurse asked, extending a medical tool towards me. I nodded and took them from her. The nurse instructed me as I lined up the tool at the appropriate spot and snipped my child's cord. My child. They laid her on Cassie's chest who had been sobbing since she was born. They weighed and took my daughter's measurements before inviting me to give her her first bath.

After she was clean, the nurse swaddled her and took her to the nursery so they could do some examinations. I went back to Cassie's room and saw her and her mom hugging as they cried. I smiled and walked further in.

"Hey." I said. "She's in the nursery if you want to go see her." I told Cassie's mom and she nodded. She kissed Cassie's forehead before leaving the room. 

"I want to see her." Cassie whined.

"Babe, you just gave birth. You can see her after you sleep. You've been in and out of sleep for twenty-eight hours." This was not an easy labor. At the first sign of labor, Cassie and I went to the hospital. It was moving slow so we were sent home where we were woken up every hour by her labor pains. Once the labor pains got closer together, which took a good twelve hours, we went back to the hospital. Cassie received an epidural, which allowed her to sleep a little, but only for a couple hours. When Cassie was awake, you better believe I was awake. She wouldn't let me sleep if she couldn't. I was exhausted and wanted Cassie to sleep so that I could. "I'll take you to see her as soon as you wake up."

"Okay." She said as a nurse walked in.

"I need you guys to fill out the birth certificate." A nurse said, handing a clipboard to me.

"The name we agreed on last week, right?" I asked and she nodded. I wrote down the name, double checking along the way to make sure I spelled it right. Casey Riley Longsworth. I signed it and then gave it to Cassie to sign before she passed it back to the nurse.

"Congratulations." She said before leaving.

"I'll go tell our family, okay? I'll be back, love you." I said.

"I love you too." She said, already half asleep. I kissed her forehead before leaving the room. I went out to the waiting room to see mine and Cassie's parents. My dad wanted to go home and come back once Casey was born since we checked in the second time, but my mom wanted to stay. 

"Do you guys want to come see the baby with me?" I asked my parents.

"Sure." My mom said, jumping up. My dad was fast asleep in the chair so she grabbed his arm, pulling him to his feet. 

"Damnit Camryn, I just got to sleep." He whined, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

"Oh shut up, we're going to go see the baby!" She squealed.

"Okay." He said, still half asleep. I turned to Cassie's parents.

"Both the nurses and I encouraged Cassie to get some sleep so she'll be out for a while."

"Okay, we should go home." Cassie's mom told her husband and he agreed. Her mom hugged me and then they left.

I led my parents to the nursery and we stood in front of the giant window. 

"Where is she?" My mom asked, pressing her face to the glass.

"Right there." I said, pointing at the baby in the middle, wrapped in a pink blanket.

"Oh my god, she's precious. She looks just like Cassie."

"How can you tell?" My dad asked.

"I just can, okay." She snapped. They were both exhausted and they don't get along when they're tired. 

"What'd you name her again?" My mom asked.

"Casey Riley." I said.

"That is such a cute name." She swooned, placing her hand over her heart. "When can I hold her?"

"I don't know, Cassie and I need to discuss it. Why don't you two go home and get some sleep. I'm going to sleep as well because I am exhausted."

"Okay." My mom sighed, pouting like a five year old. I hugged them and then we parted ways. I went back to Cassie and I's room and laid down on the reclining chair they had in the room. I leaned back and went to sleep, getting the best sleep I've had in a while.

*Two Days Later*

"Are you ready to go home, baby girl?" Cassie cooed as she strapped Casey into her car seat. We decided not to let visitors in while Cassie and Casey were in the hospital because we have way too much family for the limits they put on visitors at this hospital. We'd rather have our family come meet the new baby at home so we don't have to pick and choose who can come. Cassie only wants to invite a few people each day, so Casey doesn't get overwhelmed and or sick. 

We decided on grandparents first, of course. My mom has been texting and calling every day, asking for updates. I'm sure she's driving my dad crazy because she's driving me crazy and I don't live with her.

We got home and invited our parents over. My parents got here first, I'm sure my mom was a speed demon. I'm surprised they didn't get pulled over honestly. 

"Let me see her, let me see her." My mom said when I opened the door. She was talking a mile a minute. She reminded me of a kid having a sugar rush.

"Camryn, calm the hell  down." My dad said and she nodded. My parents sat on the couch and Cassie handed Casey to my mom.

"Oh my god, she's so beautiful." My mom said, starting to cry and my dad rolled his eyes but then a smile crawled onto his face when he saw his granddaughter.

"Hi Casey, I'm you're grandmother and I'm going to spoil you rotten."

"Oh Lord." My dad joked. "There goes my paychecks."

"Mhmm." My mom said, stroking Casey's cheek. She passed her to my dad just as there was a knock on the door which meant Cassie's parents were here. I went to go let them in and they came over, joining my parents on the couch. Casey was passed to Cassie's mom who broke into tears, just like my mom did. It was understandable for her because this was their first grandkid, my mom just really liked babies.

We spent some time with them until they had to go back. We hugged them goodbye and enjoyed about a minute of peace until Casey started to wail.

"Here we go." Cassie said, walking to our bedroom where Casey's bassinet was.
