Chapter 28: And There's Something About You

Colton's POV

*One Week Later*

I got home from school, heading straight to my room.

"Colton!" My mom called when I was halfway up the stairs. I groaned, not wanting to talk to anyone. My friends and I had been bullied relentlessly by that kid Thomas. He's been picked up by the popular kids so that makes it even worse. Now, when he beats us up, and other kids as well, he is praised.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"Come down here." I walked back down the stairs to see her waiting for me, her hands on her hips. "I feel like I haven't seen you much since you started school again."

"Sorry, lots of homework." I said, looking down at the ground.

"Are you sure that's it?"

"Yes. Now can I please go do my homework?"

"You know you can always talk to me about anything, right?"

"Yes."

"Okay, go ahead." She said and left. I hurried up the stairs and went into my room, closing the door. The truth is, I can't talk to her about hardly anything because she overreacts. Because of her past, she thinks I'm going to be just like her. So, I definitely can't tell her I'm being bullied or I'll be watched like a hawk and my door will be taken away...again.

*The Next Day*

I walked into school with Brayden and saw a group of kids in a circle. I pushed through and saw Thomas and some other guys crowded around a girl who was in a ball on the floor. They were kicking her and spitting on her, Thomas doing most of the abuse. I got a closer look and saw it was Cassie, my blood starting to boil.

"HEY!" I screamed and everyone turned to look at me. "Didn't anyone ever teach you not to hit a fucking woman? Pick a fight with me instead, leave her out of it."

"Awh look, he came to protect his little girlfriend." Thomas smirked. I clenched and unclenched my fists as Cassie watched Thomas come closer to me. He threw a punch but I dodged it, kicking him in the crotch. He kneeled down, looking up at me, his eyes watering. He grabbed my legs and pulled me to the ground, my head hitting the ground. We started throwing punches, rolling around the hallway.

"HEY! HEY! BREAK IT UP!" A teacher yelled as some cops pulled us apart. The cops dragged us down to the front office and sat us on opposite sides, hand cuffing us to the chairs. We waited and I saw Cassie lead out from the nurses office while her parents walked in. They took her out and I was led into the nurses office next.

She cleaned off the blood, both mine and Thomas'. She checked me out a bit, a worried look on her face.

"Colton, can you tell me exactly what happened?" She asked. "Colton?" She asked again. It took me a minute to answer her.

"Uhm, uh...what?" I asked. "I-I got in a fight." I said.

"Did you hit your head?" She asked and I nodded. "Is there a ringing in your ears?"

"Yeah." I said, closing my eyes.

"Headache, seeing stars?"

"Both. Woah, the room is spinning." I said, gripping onto the chair.

"Oh dear, okay. Stay right there." She said, going over to her desk.

"I-m so tired." I said, closing my eyes and letting my head fall.

"Colton, no, stay awake." She said, coming back over and picking my head back up.

"But I'm tired!" I whined.

"Please stay awake, you might have a concussion." She said, motioning for the cop that was taking care of me to go over to me.

"Colton, you need to stay awake." He said as the nurse went to the phone. "Get up, walk around, do something." He helped me stand up and I grabbed onto him to keep from falling over. I started to feel sick so I stumbled over to the trash can and fell to my knees, vomiting into the trash can.

"I called his parents and an ambulance, both should be here soon. Can you keep him awake while I check out the other one?" The nurse asked the cop and he nodded. He walked me around the office and the front part of the school, trying to keep me awake.

Soon, the ambulance arrived and paramedics helped me to the ambulance, checking me out a bit and keeping me awake. My parents showed up and watched as the paramedics tried to help me.

"Excuse me, but who are you?" One of the paramedics asked.

"We're his parents." My mom said.

"Okay, well we need to get him to the hospital for observation so only one of you can ride in the ambulance with us." They decided my mom would go while my dad signed me out and grabbed my stuff from the school.
