Chapter 139
Colton's POV
*One Year Later*
"Colton Bryce Longsworth." My name was announced and I crossed the stage, receiving my degree. I posed for a few pictures and then went to go sit back down. I can't believe it was finally here, my graduation day. I was so excited. It hasn't been easy, but I made it, and that's all that matters.
After the ceremony, I found my parents and they gave me huge hugs. Caitlyn walked up to me and hugged me before handing Elijah to me who was now almost three years old. He's growing up so fast. He's starting to walk and talk more and it's crazy.
"Hey Elijah."
"Uncle Cowen." He said, reaching up and playing with my tassel, making me chuckle. I handed him back to Caitlyn so my mom could take pictures. After she got all the pictures she needed, we went to my parents' house for a party. All of my family and friends were there along with Brayden's.
"Colton! Brayden! Congratulations!" Amanda and Bryce said as they walked up with their four year old daughter, Rebecca.
"Thank you!" We both said as I bent down and picked up Rebecca, resting her on my hip.
"And how's my favorite kiddo?" I asked, tickling her neck and she brought her shoulder to her neck to stop me, giggling.
"Good." She said.
"How old are you now? You're 18, right?"
"No, Colton! I'm 4!" She exclaimed, shoving four fingers in my face.
"My bad." I laughed. I put her back down and started talking to Amanda and Bryce again. They both went to community college but Amanda stopped after her associates while Bryce continued on to get a bachelors. He graduates in a week. They are getting married next month and I'm so happy for them.
"Colton! Come play rocket ship with me!" Rebecca begged, tugging on my shirt.
"Okay, okay." I laughed, grabbing her hand and leading her to an open area of the party.
Cassie's POV
I watched as Colton played with Rebecca, a smile on my face.
"Colton's going to be a good dad someday." Amanda said.
"What?" I asked, looking over at her.
"I said that Colton is going to be a really good dad someday. I can already tell."
"Yeah." I said with a smile. "Honestly, I'm so glad that he's out of college because now we can focus on our lives together and he can finally propose to me. I have a feeling it's going to happen soon." I said.
"Why do you have that feeling?" Amanda asked.
"We've been talking about the future a lot in the past six months and he said about a year ago that once he graduates, we can finally settle down, get married and eventually have a family."
"You really love him, don't you?" Amanda asked and I nodded.
"More than even I'll ever know. He's really the one for me."
"Well, I'm excited for you."
"I'm the one who should be excited for you! You're getting married in a month!"
"I know. Rebecca went to a friend's house about half a year ago and saw her friend's dad had a ring on his hand. She came home and looked at Bryce's hand and asked why he didn't have a ring, but I did. We tried to explain to her that we're not married yet because we're busy and don't have a lot of money. That's when we knew we had to do whatever it took to push the wedding up."
"Well I can't wait for your wedding." I said. We talked a bit more until Colton came back over with Rebecca.
Colton's POV
"IF I COULD GET EVERYBODY'S ATTENTION!" I yelled loud enough so I could be heard over the music. Everyone went quiet and turned to look at me. Brayden stood with me as we waited for a moment for all other noise to stop.
"We just want to say thank you to everyone for coming. Mom and dad, thank you for always believing in me and helping me to do the right thing. Thank you Amanda and Bryce for making my high school days great. Colton, thank you for always putting up with me, letting me live with you and let me follow you from school to school. Thank you to everyone, I couldn't have done this without you." He finished and everyone clapped.
"Mom and dad, I know I was an asshole, so thank you for dealing with my shit long enough for mke to turn it around. Caitlyn, you're my annoying little sister but I love you and you've been there fopr me when I needed it most. You also gave me the cutest little nephew ever. Bryce, Amanda, thank you for being there in my time of need and giving me second and third and even fourth chances. Brayden, you were my first friend and you helped me accomplish everything up to this point." I kept going through my thank you's until I only had one person left. "Cassie, you didn't give up on me and I couldn't thank you enough for that. If you had, I wouldn't be as happy as I am now. I am so in love with you and I couldn't ask for a better person to be by my side. Will you marry me?" I asked and everyone gasped.
"W-What?" She said.
"I said," I started, dropping to one knee and pulling the ring box out of my pocket. I opened it up to reveal a beautiful diamond ring in a black velvet box that I had spent two years saving money to buy it. She put her right hand over her open mouth as I grabbed her left hand. I looked up at her with a huge smile on my face. My heart was thumping loudly in my chest, worried she would say no.
"Of course I will!" She exclaimed, tears filling her eyes. I jumped up and hugged her tightly, Cassie hugging me back. Everyone clapped while we hugged. A few tears escaped my eyes. I was just so happy. We pulled apart and I slid the ring onto her finger, both of our hands shaking. We hugged again and then I grabbed her face, kissing her.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too." She said with a smile as I kissed her forehead.
