Chapter 145: Casey's Baptism

Colton's POV

*Two Months Later*

"Cassie, I want to get Casey baptized." I told my wife as she was cooking dinner.

"Baptized?" Cassie asked and I nodded. "Colton, you know I don't want to introduce my children to religion because I don't even have one of my own. I want them to figure it out for themselves. I don't want to force something onto them."

"Okay, but, if we don't introduce her to any religion, she won't have an interest to explore religions in her. She'll just want to walk around not believing in anything!"

"Baptism is a big commitment Colton, and I want Casey to make that commitment on her own, like you did."

"I want her to get baptizied and attend Sunday School so that she can have a system of beliefs instilled in her and then let her choose what she wants when she's older. Why are you being so stubborn about this? You know how important this is to me."

"I'm being stubborn?" Just then, Casey started crying. "Hold on, our daughter is awake." She said, pushing past me and going into our room. I sighed. I just want my daughter to be baptized. I haven't been going to church as often since Casey's been born, but I've been going as much as I can. I just want Casey to have the ability to make a choice.

The rest of the night was pretty awkward between Cassie and I. We didn't talk much and ate dinner pretty much in silence.

I was laying in bed, watching TV, when Cassie climbed in next to me. She picked up the remote, pressed pause, and let out a sigh.

"What?" I asked, looking at her.

"You can get Casey baptized."

"Are you serious?" I asked with a smile.

"Yes, I know how important this is to you so I'll let you do it. As long as you don't force her to believe what you believe as she gets older. Don't get mad at her if she wants to believe in something else."

"I won't!" I said with a smile on my face.

"Good." She said, smiling back at me. I kissed her for a while before pulling away and pressing play on the remote. That night, I went to sleep with a smile on my face.

*One Month Later*

I was sitting in the second pew in church, Casey sitting on my lap. I think Cassie's favorite part about this whole thing was picking out a dress for Casey. She was wearing a white dress with sleeves that went to her elbows. It was covered in lace and the top layer was see through with a white slip underneath. She looked darling. She also had a white flower headband on her head.

The Baptism of Casey Riley Longsworth.

Today we are celebrating Casey Riley Longsworth's entrance into God's family. Her parents are Colton and Cassie Longsworth. The sponsors are Amanda and Bryce Tanner. The grandparents are Camryn and Chris Longsworth and Brianna and James Miller. Please keep their family in your prayers as their little one continues to grow in the faith.

I smiled as the service started. All of are friends and family came and I was honored that they all showed up. Halfway through the service, we were called up. Cassie and I stood up, my mom, Amanda and Bryce following us.

We made our commitments and then the pastor grabbed Casey from me. He held her over the baptismal font and she was cooing loudly, making the congregation laugh and aw. When the pastor dumped the shell full of water on the top of her head, she stopped. She didn't cry, just looked at him with a confused look on her face.

He carried her to the stain glass window and prayed over her before returning her to me. We lit a candle, received a gift from the congregation and then sat back down.
