Chapter 97

Colton's POV

"Sarah! Colton! Hello!" The pastor exclaimed as he walked up and shook our hands. "Follow me to my office." He said, leading us down a hallway. We passed a few rooms before he entered one. We followed him and sat down in the chairs in front of his desk. He sat down behind his desk and moved a few papers aside before turning his attention to us.

"So, what have you two come to talk to me about today?" He asked us. I looked over at Sarah and she kicked my foot. I let out a sigh and looked down at my hands on my lap.

"I was-uh-possibly thinking about-uh-maybe, if at all possible, kind of-uhm-getting...baptized?" I stuttered.

"That's great Colton! So, I'm sure Sarah has told you that you're going to need to go through a series of classes, correct?"

"Yes sir."

"Okay, they are every Sunday at three pm. Do you think you could make it?"

"Yes sir."

"Alright, before we move forward, I just want to make sure that you are doing this for yourself. This needs to be a thing you honestly and truly want. You need to stop and think, if anybody is making you do this, your parents, Sarah....?"

"No sir, I want to do this. I want to be accepted into the kingdom of heaven and I want to get to know my savior better."

"Well, alright then. Are you able to make it on Sunday?"

"Yes sir!"

"I'll see you then." He smiled. We said goodbye to him and went back out to my car.

"Babe, I think you should tell your parents." Sarah said as I was driving her home.

"What?"

"Tell your parents that you're getting baptized."

"I will."

"Babe. Today. It's better they know sooner rather than later."

"Sarah, I will. I'll do it today."

"Thank you." She smiled as I pulled into her driveway. I walked her up to her door, gave her a kiss goodbye, and drove home.

"Hey Colton." My mom smiled as I walked in the house.

"Hey." I said, dropping my keys on the entryway table.

"Where were you again today?"

"At the church."

"On a Wednesday?"

"Can you and dad meet me in the living room? We need to talk." I said, walking past her and into the living room. I sat down on the couch and let out a sigh. A minute later, both of my parents walked into the room and sat down.

"What did you need to talk to us about?" My dad asked.

"Well, you know I've been attending church with Sarah for quite a while."

"Yes." My mom said.

"Well, I've thought about it a lot and I've come to the realization that I truly believe. I feel like I belong when I walk into that building. So, I've decided to be baptized."

"What!"

"Oh, oh my." My mom said.

"What?" I asked.

"Colton, are you sure?" My dad asked.

"This is a big commitment Colton."

"I am sure. I already talked to the pastor at the church and he's set me up with classes. I know what this entails and...I'm ready."

"Colton, do you have any idea what this means to them?"

"Them? Mom! I am them! I am a Christian, what is the problem about that?"

"You've just had a history of doing things because of your current girlfriend." My dad said.

"Oh my god. I'm not fucking doing this because of Sarah! Yes, she's the one who introduced me but I truly believe! I want this!"

"Col-"

"No. It is my turn to speak. You guys raised me to believe in whatever religion I see fit for myself. Just because I actually broke away from the rest of the families belief system and found my own path, doesn't mean shit! God, I can't fucking believe you guys! This is why I didn't even want to tell you!" I stormed out of the room and up the stairs. I went into my room and texted Sarah.

Colton~ I told them. Biggest mistake of my life.
