Chapter 30: Suspended

Colton's POV

I managed to get to sleep that night, despite the nurse coming in and waking me up every two hours. I woke up the next morning with my parents by my side. They had gone home to grab me some clean clothes to change out of so I could get out of my hospital gown.

A nurse came and unhooked me while I went to go get dressed. I got back into the bed and they checked my vitals and everything before the doctor came in.

"Well, you're well enough to go home but I want you to stay in bed until next monday."

"You mean I can't go back to school until next week?"

"I'm sorry, but while recovering from a concussion, it's best to get lots of rest. If you start to feel nauseous or get a headache, tell your parents so they can keep an eye on you. If you feel good Monday, go to school but still try to take it easy. No sports, no fights, got it?"

"Yeah." I sighed. He smiled and left. I got out of the bed and my parents walked with me to the car. We drove home and my parents sent me straight to bed.

*One Week Later*

Except for being tired the entire week I was home, everything went fine and I was able to come to school on Monday. I was in first period when I got called down to the front office. I walked in and the receptionist looked up at me.

"The principal wants to see you." She smiled. I sighed and walked into his office, sitting down.

"I understand you were involved in a fight last week?" The principal asked.

"Yeah, that's why I was out for the last week. I got a concussion."

"Can you tell me exactly what happened?"

"I saw my best friend, Cassie Grimes, being beat up by Thomas Smith and a couple of his friends. I got really angry because I was raised to never hit a girl and that was my best friend he was beating up and spitting on. So, I broke it up. He went to throw a punch at me but I dodged it and kicked him in the nuts and then we just started punching each other."

"Okay Mr. Longsworth, you're suspended for a week."

"Suspended! I was standing up for someone! I thought this school was against bullying?"

"We are. Bu-"

"But nothing! That fucking kid has been bullying me and my friends since school started!"

"This school has a zero tolerance for fighting. I don't care what your reason was behind the fight, you still fought."

"I can't fucking believe this." I groaned.

"I'd watch your language Mr. Longsworth. Now, here's a pass back to class so you can grab your stuff. I'll call your parents and have them pick you up." He said, handing me a piece of paper.

"I've already been out of school for a week. I can't miss two weeks of school."

"This is different. This time, you're suspended, not just home sick."

"How long is Thomas suspended."

"Two weeks."

"Two weeks! This kid needs to be fucking expelled."

"I don't think you should be telling me how to run my school. Now go get your stuff." I groaned and stormed out of his office. I went back to my class and started grabbing my stuff.

"What's going on?" Bryce asked.

"I'm fucking suspended for a week." I said, walking out of the classroom with my stuff. I went back to the front office and waited for my parents to arrive. My mom walked in, signed me out and we walked out to the car.

"Isn't you getting a concussion, spending a night in the hospital and missing a week of school being on bed rest punishment enough?" My mom grumbled.

"I know right! I'm probably just going to have Cassie or Brayden pick up my assignments. I can't fucking believe this."

"I know sweetie. It'll all be okay." She said, rubbing my shoulder as she drove.
