Chapter 70: Rehab
Colton's POV
I was woken up by bright lights. I looked to see Daniel pulling his shirt on.
"Time to get up." He smiled, walking into the bathroom. I sighed and went to my chest. I pulled out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, pulling it on. Daniel emerged from the bathroom and I went in, brushing my hair and teeth. I put on my shoes and a staff member came to take us to breakfast. We sat in the cafeteria and ate breakfast. We were led back to our room and waited about thirty minutes until group session started. We went down to the room where it was being held and sat in empty chairs.
The group session basically introduced the new members and discussed everyone's progress on their 12-step programs and recovery.
"Colton, what about you? I know you haven't started your program yet but how are you feeling otherwise?" The leader asked.
"Uhm, I detoxed in the hospital so I'm not having anything withdrawal symptoms. I didn't do drugs enough to get addicted. I am really craving a beer and a cigarette right now." I sighed.
"Good." The group leader smiled. "Tell us Colton, what's your home life like? What got you into this mess?"
"My ex-girlfriend. She overdosed and died so I tried to do the same, but my family found me. My home life is good, I just got wrapped up in really bad behavior." I shrugged. She pried a bit more information out of me before moving onto the next person.
After our group session, we went back to our room to relax before lunch. We headed down to the cafeteria for lunch and ate. After lunch, we had what is called Individual Behavior Therapy which is basically just regular therapy. I was given a room number and went to that room, knocking on the door.
"Come in!" I walked in to see a man sitting behind a desk. "Hello. Are you...Colton Longsworth?" He asked, looking down at a piece of paper on his desk.
"Yes sir."
"Okay, come in and have a seat." He smiled. I walked in and sat down in front of his desk. I played with my fingers as he shifted some things around on his desk.
"So Colton, it says here you are sixteen and you are in here for drug and alcohol addiction."
"Yes sir." I said.
"How did you get into this nasty habit?"
"Well, I met my girlfriend at a state appointed group therapy session for my DUI. We got serious really fast and throughout our relationship she got me hooked on cigarettes, and we tried different types of alcohol and drugs. My parents banned me from seeing her once they found out some things and she overdosed and died. I tried to kill myself by overdosing on heroin but my family found me and took me to the hospital. My grandpa talked some sense into me and now I'm here with a desire to get better."
"Well that's good that you want to be here. Do you know if you have any history of alcoholism in your family Colton?"
"My grandpa on my mom's side is an alcoholic and my great grandpa on her side used to drink a lot." He nodded and wrote some things down in his notepad.
"How's your home life Colton?"
"Great! My parents are still together, I have a little sister and I used to have really great friends. I'm just hoping I can get them back when I get better."
"So, you mentioned your grandfather talked to you after your overdose. Why do you think that helped?"
"Well, my family is super close and my grandpa's a therapist so he's really good at talking to people. He told me a similar situation that happened to him when he was a teenager and it made me realize how stupid I was being. If my grandpa can go from being depressed and suicidal to this amazing man with a good career and a great family, then I can do something with my life too."
"Are you depressed Colton?"
"No. I mean, I don't think so? I'm generally a happy person." I shrugged. He kept asking me questions until our session ended. I went back to my room and waited until group therapy started. I walked into the room and sat down in an empty chair.
"Okay, we have someone new here with us today. Why don't you introduce yourself?" The leader smiled at me.
"I'm Colton. Seventeen. Addicted to drugs and alcohol."
"Tell us your story Colton." She said and I sighed.
"My girlfriend got me addicted to drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. She overdosed and died so I tried to kill myself by overdosing on heroin but I was taken to the hospital and saved." I shrugged.
After group therapy, which sucked, I had to go to a grief counseling session where I was forced to talk about Bella. I came here to try to forget about her, not be constantly reminded of her. After that was family therapy which I didn't have yet so I just went back to my room until free time. Daniel and I played a game of basketball until it was time for dinner. We cleaned up and went to the cafeteria, eating dinner and then returning to our rooms.
After dinner, I had to start my 12-step program so I went to the designated room where most people were already seated. I found an empty seat and waited for it to start.
After the program, I went back to my room, showered and went to bed.
