Chapter 50

Camryn's POV

"Is he home yet?" Chris asked, walking into the living room where I was sitting.

"No. Oh my god Chris, I'm so worried." I said, biting my lip. It was four am and Colton still wasn't home.

"I'm sure he's just fine." My phone rang and my heart skipped a beat.

"Colton?" I asked.

"Hello, is this Camryn Longsworth?" I heard a strange, female voice.

"Yes."

"Hi, I'm a nurse at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Your son, Colton Longsworth was in a car crash about an hour ago and we need you to come down right away."

"Oh my god, is he okay?"

"I am unable to give you any information on the phone."

"I'll be right there." I said and hung up.

"What happened?" Chris asked. I ignored him and ran upstairs, pulling on a pair of sweatpants. "Camryn, what's going on?" He asked, stadning in the doorway.

"Colton got in a car crash. Grab Caitlyn, they said they need us there right away." He nodded and ran off towards Caitlyn's room. I rushed downstairs and slipped on some sandals, grabbing the car keys and jogging out to the car. I got in and turned it on, Chris and Caitlyn climbing in a minute later.

I rushed to the hospital, tears streaming down my face as I imagined all that could of happened to my baby boy. I parked in the parking lot and I ran in. I rushed up to the reception desk and took a moment to catch my breath.

"Where's Colton Longsworth. I'm his mother, Camryn."

"Room twelve." The nurse said. I thanked her and the three of us rushed down the hall. I came to the door that had a big '12' on it but there were two police officers leaning against the wall. I reached out to open the door but one of the cops stood in front of me.

"I'm his mother, please let me see my son." I cried.

"I'm assuming you're the father?" The officer asked Chris and he nodded.

"What is this about?" Chris asked.

"We need to talk to you about your son." The other officer said.

"Your son is very lucky." The first officer began. "He ran into a tree and was found passed out at the scene. The doctors were able to revive him and he is now in stable condition."

"But, the hospital did find alcohol in his system so we're going to have to charge him with a DUI." The second officer said.

"But he would never drive drunk officer." I protested.

"Well he did, he's lucky he didn't kill someone else or himself. His car was totaled."

"We're going to suspend his license for a year, give him some fines, require a DUI school education and once he is released from the hospital, he will spend 4 days in Juvenile Detention."

"What is a DUI school education?" I asked.

"It's a three month long program that consists of drug and alcohol education along with group and individual counseling."

"Officer, he's just a kid." Chris pleaded.

"Drunk driving is not a 'kids will be kids' situation. It is a dangerous act that has serious consequences. It's better he learns this now because if he was seventeen, he would be seen as an adult in the eyes of the law. His consequences would be harsher and he would go to jail. Your son has never had a conflict with the law before and his BAC wasn't terribly high so these are the lightest consequences I was able to give him."

"We will send you the information about the course he will start once he goes to juvy, the suspension of his license and the fees you will have to pay. Have a nice day." The other cop said and then they left.

I opened the door and rushed in to see my son laying in a hospital bed attached to many machines. Chris and Caitlyn followed behind me. I sat next to his bed and pushed the hair out of his face. I gripped his hand as I began to cry. Where did I go wrong? He was my perfect little boy.

"Oh Colton." I sighed.

"M-Mom?"

"Colton!" I gasped and a small smile spread across his face.

"H-Hi mom." He said.

"Hey Colton." Chris said and Colton turned his head.

"Hey d-dad. Hey Cait-Caitlyn." He said. "Why am I in here?" All he had were a few brusies and scratches. He was lucky.

"Colton, you got drunk and got in a crash."

"Fuck." He groaned. "I remember and I hate myself."

"You got a DUI Colton. Your license is suspended and you're going to spend four days in Juvie once you get out."

"WHAT! But-but, I didn't kill anyone...did I?"

"Colton, if you killed someone, you wouldn't only be getting four days in Juvie." Chris laughed.

"These are consequences to your actions that are meant to teach you a lesson. Why on earth would you ever drive drunk? Didn't we tell you about one hundred times to never get in a car if you or the driver have had alcohol?"

"I found out Jennifer has been cheating on me so I went to the party her and I were supposed to go and got drunk. I'm sorry."

"Oh, you'll be sorry boy when you get the bill. I've been researching minor DUI charges...you will not see a cent of your paycheck for months."

"Chris." I warned.

"Oh, and you totaled your car so good luck getting a new one."

"Chris!" I exclaimed and he stopped to look at me. "Let's not focus on money now. Let's just focus on the fact that Colton is alive and healthy...ish." I smiled.
