Ep. 2 "No Mercy (Part Two)" Ch. 6/6

•——— ——— —•——

Warren, Doc, Murphy, Cassandra carrying Lucy in a cooler, and Addy found them just when the sun was beginning to dip in the horizon and flash its orange hues across the sky.

None of them mentioned the dishevelled nature of Red's hair, or the haunted look on Joy's eyes like she'd just made a terrible mistake, or even the swell of both girls' lips. However, Joy doubted they were noticing much.

Just like Joy, they all looked traumatized to what they left behind, eager to rip free of their red jumpsuits and suffocating masks.

Once freed, Warren glanced around, skipping straight over both girls slumped against a wall and back in the direction they just came from as if someone were bound to pop out from beyond the corner. But no one did.

"Where's everybody?" Instead of answering Warren's question, Addy's knees gave out, forcing her onto the pavement, her bloodied Z-Whacker laid over her lap.

Warren turned to Doc.

"Survivors?" The white-bearded man shook his eyes, eyes downcast onto his shuffling feet as he stuffed his jumpsuit and mask into a beaten barrel, the once lively community now completely silent to where Joy could almost hear her own heartbeat bounce across the walls.

Finally, Warren turned to Joy and Red, trying to find an explanation in the girls who could hardly put words into their voices.

"Nobody?" Both shook their heads.

Although their luck of survival persevered, that same luck didn't transfer to others. The only survivor of a community trying to protect their doctor were Red and 5K—assuming 5K with 10K were still alive.

What would Joy if 10K was dead? She wouldn't even get a chance to explain herself to him. Would he come back in ghost form to haunt her? Would 10K's ghost hate her?

Murphy kicked a battered can away with a huff, the loudest sound thus far if you didn't count Warren's despair over how she'd led a whole community of survivors into a massacre at The Man's hand.

Where even was The Man now anyway? Hopefully, dead too.

"I told you, never get off the boat." Joy grabbed the nearest can and threw it directly at Murphy's head. It sailed directly over it, but the intention was obvious seeing as Cassandra was quick to hiss at her after.

"Shut up, Murphy."

They fell into silence again. Dreadful and grieving silence. Murphy wasn't wrong, perhaps if they hadn't interfered all these people would still be alive—without Doctor Teller, but alive—yet they just had to be chivalrous.

That was kind of their thing and why Joy fit in as well as she did. They tried to help to be the heroes the apocalypse needed, just to fuck it all up.

The apocalypse was made for introverts, not heroes.
