I fixed my cap in the bathroom mirror momma came up behind me,"I'm so proud of you Michelle. My baby girl a graduating senior and valedictorian of her class." I smiled at her reflection behind me,"Thank you momma it's been hard but we made it." Since I found out I was valedictorian momma's been bragging non stop. Having the highest GPA of my graduating class.
There was a knock on my room door Steven walked in with Aliyah on his arm dressed in his red cap and gown with a black and white suit underneath. "Guess who's here to see mommy!" I couldn't help but smile at Aliyah dressed in her white dressed that matched mine. My baby girl has grown up so much it felt like it was just yesterday I was carrying her in my stomach.
"Mommy" she said running and jumping into my arms. I kissed both of her cheeks,"How's mommy's baby girl doing." She giggled,"Mommy graduate." She clapped her hands I laughed,"Yes mommy graduate."
Steven walked over to me,"You ready we gotta go Chelle." I nodded,"Dasia meeting us over there at the auditorium?" He grabbed Aliyah's bag,"Yeah I told her I would meet her there I had to drop Liyah off."
"You think she go be mad if she sees us getting out the car together?" He shook his head,"No we talked about it before hand." Steven had a new girlfriend and she didn't like me and Steven's relationship as friends. It took awhile for me to be okay with seeing him with somebody else but I put my feelings aside for our daughters sake.
We still talk and hang out as a family with Aliyah when he's not busy and I'm not busy. It's been hard working, going to school and being a mom all at the same time. I've had Courtney, Steven and my mommy helping me so they made it so much easier on me to accomplish my goals.
We got in the car driving to the auditorium. Courtney ran up to me,"Girl today is the day! You ready." I smiled,"Yes girl I've been waiting for forever for this day to come!"
She hugged me,"All graduating students line up!" People started scattering everywhere behind the stage to get into their places. We lined up in alphabetical order as the announcers came onto the mic.
Everybody stopped talking I looked over at Courtney. She winked at me we started walking out to take our seats. The crowd of proud parents, friends and families roared. I took my seat by the teachers. I searched the crowd of people to find my family. My eyes landed on Braxton he was staring at me.
The ceremony was about to began my stomach turned I couldn't believe I was going to give a speech in front of so many people. The principal stood up walking to the podium introducing me,"Here's our very own Michelle Davis Valedictorian of class our senior graduating class of 2020."
The whole auditorium cheered I smiled standing to my feet walking over to the podium. I waited for the crowd to die down. I couldn't help but smile,"I'd like to welcome everyone to this solemn and joyous occasion." By the end of my speech half of the seniors were crying.
I received a standing ovation I walked back to my seat wiping my cheeks. The ceremony went on,"Ladies and gentlemen it's time to announce our graduating class."
The teachers stood up and so did everybody else. He announced the first graduates everybody cheered and shouted. "Michelle Davis" I walked across the stage to receive my diploma. I couldn't believe I did it there was some night I thought I couldn't it do it no more.
Shaking the principals hand he smiled,"Congratulations Ms. Davis." I shook each teachers hand then waved at the screaming crowd. I smiled at all my friends this had to be a close second to the greatest thing that's ever happened to me in my life. The first was receiving a gift from god my baby girl Aliyah.
