It was spring. A season where the cherry blossoms bloom to their fullest, where cherry pink petals float around in the air and then touching the ground gently.
When spring came by, the park was always filled with people. Some came to gather people and watch the cherry blossoms together while having food, sort of like a picnic except a lot of them do it at night because the night cherry blossoms looked different from they do in the day. Some just came to stop by and take them in their eyes before the cherry blossoms fall off.
That's right, cherry blossoms fall off. As time passes, one by one, the flowers would fall off from the branches and there would not be any left, leaving the cherry blossom trees bald.
However, there was one tree that was slightly different from the others.
It was the biggest one among all of them. Its branches were heavy with cherry blossoms. As it was centered in the park, it naturally caught everyone's attention. The view of it was so beautiful, it took many of the tourists and locals' breaths away. It was said that this only happens once in a lifetime, for a cherry blossom tree to bloom this much.
The only part of the tree that was similar with the others was that the cherry blossoms fall off as well. It was a shame but what can one do about it? Humans would eventually forget and look forward to the next spring to come. They had always been like this.
A man, wearing a Prussian blue yukata, sat on one of the bigger branch of the tree, letting his legs hang off of it, moving it back and forth. His curly dark hair seemed to be messier when the strong wind blew. He would usually try to avoid letting other people see him by shifting from branches to branches, moving out from their eyesight. He never liked having anyone approach him, especially humans.
They go through difficulties, move on, and forget. Never thinking twice about looking back. This was why he hated humans.

Spring had arrived for a while now and most of the people had seen the cherry blossoms. Slowly, visitors to the park started to decrease and ended up with only a couple of people coming over. Not to enjoy the cherry blossoms but rather it was to pass by the park as a shortcut to some other place.
Soraru sat on his tree, like always. This was why he disliked humans. He felt like he was treated like a toy, being thrown away after they got bored of it. He clicked his tongue at the thought. He hated it when he was not appreciated.
But even so, he appreciated the fact that there was lesser or no people in the park now. This meant he could take a rest until spring was over, then he could go back and report it to the Spirit King about how it had been. He put his hands into his yukata sleeves, thinking about how he would write the report for today until he got distracted by a sound from under his tree. He lowered his head to see what interrupted his thoughts.
It was a young man. He looked like he was in his twenties. The young man wore clothes that were bigger than him, making him look smaller and weak instead, causing Soraru to want to protect him. He had beige-coloured hair, clearly bleached and dyed for a number of times, already damaging his hair. The boy had a barcode on his left cheek. His eyes were red, bright ones. Brighter than rubies, darker than the normal red. When Soraru looked closer, he might actually have a pair of crimson red eyes. He was staring at him with them.
Soraru then seemed to have realised something. He flinched at that realisation and wanted to move away but he did not know why he could not move from where he was. He wanted to hide, he wanted to stay away but he can't. All he could do was stare back at him, not blinking an eye, afraid that he might do something to his tree if he did.
"Who are you?" he heard the boy ask.
Soraru did not see the reason for him to answer. "Why should I tell you about that? Isn't it rude to ask a stranger that question before introducing yourself?" Soraru scoffed at him, he brought his feet back up on the branch and sat cross-legged, not letting his legs hang off the branch anymore. He leaned his back onto the trunk of the tree.
The boy then lowered his head. Soraru could not see his expression. He might have started hating him because of his attitude. Good. Lesser trouble for him, maybe he would now walk away and let Soraru resume to his thoughts but he was wrong.
The boy looked back at him again, this time with an apologetic smile on his face. He watched the boy scratch the back of his head as he said, "You were right, I'm really sorry. My name is Mafumafu, and you are?"
Soraru was surprised. He really was. How many years had it been since he talked to a human without having to despise them because of their typical behaviour? This boy, Mafumafu was different. He was debating in this mind to whether he should give a chance to humans.
"Soraru," and he chose to give it to him.
