"Wait- Matt, look!" Jessica pointed fondly of her sights in the air, as the ache in her heart had faded, and a feeling of hope, and happiness returning. Yet the pain that still was there within her wounds, things were looking brighter.
The bird in the sky, was a good sign. Really, it was a helicopter there to retrieve them, and carpool them to wherever they are to go next.
"Well, isn't that a sight for sore eyes?" Matt commented, as he stood erect on his feet. He crossed his arms as he just analyzed the chopper with admiration. Bliss. Understanding that the helicopter above them is their ticket back to a normal life.
Normal life to them, meaning one without those historical creatures. Also the life that contains memories of past events, that some of the worst ones will haunt your dreams terrifyingly, and leave you shaking. That's what they consider normal beyond today.
Jess placed both hands on her hips, as she inhaled, and exhaled tiredly, yawning. Her eyes followed the movement of the aircraft as it entered hover mode, and lowered down closer to them.
A ladder had been deployed, as it unraveled down, in their reach. Jessica was first to start climbing, as Matt kept low, giving her that extra push that she needed to reach the top, as he didn't require as much triumph to succeed.
The injuries he had really were pathetic compared to hers. He had the few cuts, and bruises on his legs, arms, and face. When Jessica had them plastered across her entire body. Open wounds, with some fresh blood still there, trying to heal just a little bit. She would wince every step she took, and every word she said, she had mumbled. Some pretty severe damage was done to her, if it wasn't obvious.
Their arms, and legs inclining in sync, they reached the top with a timely experience, it being fairly risky to rush. Jessica making one little mistake, and falling down, leads to her almost immediate death. Tumbling down the mountain, or just worsening her state just contacting the ground.
"You okay?" Matt asked as he reached the top, returning his focus on her. All he knew was he had nothing less to do but to protect her. I mean, that's what Mike would do. Protect her. Do whatever it takes. Right?
"I'm fine," she winced as she spoke, releasing a groan, overheard by Matt.
Both had taken a seat on one of those metal materialized benches that some helicopters have. This, being one of them.
The helicopter had begun to courteously aviate through the sky once more. A bit of turbulence troubling the ride. The plane had been rocking back, and forth as it was pushed around. Not severely, but good enough to make their bodies jerk.
The two surviving passengers remained silent for at least a quarter of the ride. Their relationship hadn't really been strong in the immediate circle of friends. They spoke, but not often. But, because of tonight, their relationship grew drastically, as one depended on the other for survival.
But, when they spoke. It was really to get what was on their mind, expressed.
"I just wanna know if Mike is okay..." Jessica said somberly, her face burying in her hands, as minimal tears forced themselves to be released.
Hearing the name made him cringe. Matt strongly disliked Mike ever since he had first begun dating Emily. It seemed like he, and her never actually parted.
Seeing them so close. Hugging. When Emily had said she was only going to find Sam, which was a complete lie. She chased right after Mike like was some sort of magnet.
But, all in all, Jessica hadn't really known about what Mike had done past his breakup with Emily. Matt did. He got it out of Emily. The hard way. The wrong way, too. But, he couldn't possibly hold Mike against Jess. It's just wrong. It's just not him.
"Bet he is," Matt said with minimal assurance, as he didn't know the perfect way to soothe her about someone he didn't care for. "He's a strong guy. He saved you. He can save himself."
"You're right," Jess sighed, sniffling in. "He is."
"You'll see him again, and I bet he wants to see you," he said, "whatever it takes."
Jess smiled, as she looked up to him. "Bet Em wants to see you, too." Jess forced a smile, as they engaged eye contact.
"Yeah, bet she does." Matt scoffed frustratedly. "Not."
"Are you serious?" Jess remarked. "Why wouldn't she want to after all of this?"
"If anything, she wants me dead." Matt sighed. "We got into this fight over-" Mike. That's all he had to say. But, he couldn't. Jess can't know. But, as for that, she had no reason to hate him. He tried to save her from falling off of the tower. He didn't agree with going there. He knew it would only lead to something problematic, which it did. He ended up going unconscious. And, adding onto that, he was chased around by a Wendigo. Really snatched up by one. Lucky for him, he had a flare gun. One he could use to scare it off.
"Over what?" Jess asked, pulling him away from his train of thought.
"Something stupid," he tumbled over his words as he spat out a lie. "She took it too personal."
"That's horrible," Jess sighed, as her voice just was faint. Her throat burned, and it always hurt to talk. "I mean, you're a great guy. You would do anything to protect her, and all." Jess forced a smile. "She'll never realize what she lost."
