Past the tragedy occurring on Blackwood Mountain at the Washington Lodge a year after the disappearance of Hannah and Beth Washington, Chris and Ashley had been glued to the hip with each other. During the helicopter ride back to the police station, Ashley cuddled up next to Chris. She felt safe. Comfortable. Like life was taking a turn in the right direction once again. Returning to normal that very second. After the fact, she refused to leave his side. Never would. Never had any mindset she would.
She requested during the interview that her and Chris would remain together. They wouldn't approve of that. They all had their own story to tell. They needed to be separated. The moment she left him, her mind raced. She felt alone. What happened the last few hours stuck in her mind like a movie. All she thought of was the choices Chris had to make that night. Save her or his best friend. Shoot himself or her. She couldn't stop imagining what would have happened if he did shoot her. Would she hold a grudge? It wouldn't matter now. It's over. They survived Until Dawn.
The interviews were over. They were together again. He was like the bread to her butter. Or, the scene to her movie. But most of all, the man she needed in her life. The shoulder to lean on. Cry on. The one who told her stupid jokes just to keep a smile on her face. The study partner that helped her pass the tests since the beginning. Her crush since freshman year. The one she worked up the courage to kiss when he risked his life to save a friend in need. He was the one she knew she loved.
Now? Chris and Ashley sit silently in the station as the two remaining survivors. Ashley's parents were on their way to pick up the two.
Ashley leaned her head on Chris' shoulder attempting to fall asleep. She seemed to doze off partially awake just laying there quietly. She didn't have much time to completely just take a nap before being interrupted by a female officers voice. "Miss. Stinemen. Mr. Fleiss. Your family is here to pick you up." She informed. Ashley momentarily took her head off of Chris' shoulder. She became comfortable after sitting there for that period of time, she didn't really want to leave that position. But she had too.
Walking out the front door Ashley spotted the familiar car her dad drove with a driver, and a passenger sitting inside. "There's my parents." She motioned slowly for her parents car. The door swung open as her mother jumped out of the passenger seat. "Ashley!" She ran to her daughter gripping her tightly in her arms, stroking her messy hair. Ashley's father came out from behind the truck joining into the hug with his injured daughter. "Oh my god, Ashley! You look terrible! What happened to you?" He pulled away from the hug placing his cold hands on her forehead staring at her black eye. "Dad, it's fine. It was just - I was hit." Her voice softened on her last words. He looked at her perplexed. He didn't say a word after that.
Her mom gazed over to Chris leaning his shoulder against a wall. She motioned him to come forward. He did. Her father let his eyes fall upon Chris as he walked closer. "Dad," Ashley begun. "You remember Chris. Right?" She walked to his side keeping a close distance between them. "Yeah." He nodded. "He ah- protected me. The whole night. There was this psycho that was up on the mountain that turned out to be our friend, Josh and umm- Chris made sure that there was no harm to me. He saved me. No matter what happened to him." She finished. Her fathers eyes locked on Chris. He did have injuries. They looked more severe than Ashley's. It was clear he was in pain. He had a mark on his forehead as if he was hit too, which he was. He walked with a limp and held onto his side. "That's very nice of you, Chris." Her mother smiled. "Now, let's get going. Shall we?"
