Ball Isn't Life, Writing Is

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

For the Peeta's POV series, it was just the fact that I couldn't find any good POV from Peeta's viewpoint so I wrote my own. It's not great by any means, but I slowly working on pretty much rewriting the entire thing. Forbidden Uncovering was just of a dream I had.

Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre? If you write more than one, how do you balance them?

I started writing Fan Fiction because of what I mentioned above. I couldn't find what I was looking for. But then if you look at Peeta's POV, I continued the story farther not only because it was requested but because I came up with an idea of how to continue it. FIRO came about pretty much because I toyed around with the idea of continue WWSH and couldn't think of anything for a year or so, then it just came to me.

Forbidden Uncovering is fantasy. I started writing fantasy because between fantasy and science fiction most of the books I read and love fit into these categories. They are usually farther removed from reality and I think it offers a good escape.

I balance genres pretty much by just taking one book at a time because I don't like trying to write too many at once because then I think I'm just half-assing chapters.

Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from?

I know I always like hearing stories as a child, but as I got older. It was the end of my 6th grade year (so I was 12, turning 13 in September of that year) and my parents started having some more arguments and troubles in their marriage. Really, thinking about it now it's not surprising they weren't happy together because they only got married because my mom got pregnant with me her senior year of high school. That's besides the point, the more fighting started happening in my house I started retreating into myself more. I didn't particularly read a lot before then, but I found the Percy Jackson books at the end of the school year. I started reading them and instantly fell in love with the plot, characters, writing style. That was when I really discovered a love of reading.

Like a year later, at the end of my 7th grade year (so I was 13 now, turning 14 in a few months), I read The Hunger Games for the first time. I loved the series and Peeta's character specifically. I started searching around online for his POV and I found something here or there. I only found one complete one and a lot of them that had one or two chapters and hadn't been updated for a year or so. I read the one that was completed and it was through that I found Wattpad. But the story frankly pissed me off. It didn't follow the plot closely. It was kind of like how Hollywood fucks with a plot. You know like they did with The Lightning Thief. So I decided I could write a Peeta's POV too and keep it closer to the actual plot. That's what I did. I used the book for reference for a majority of it and only changed minor things. Minor things about maybe who said something if the person wasn't prominent in the book except for like one or two lines, stuff like that.

I wrote Peeta's POV until the end of 8th grade or freshman year. I can't remember which, but I was 14 or 15 at this point. I didn't have readers yet on the first book or even the second book. But as I neared the end of Catching Fire: Peeta's POV (I know that's not the exact way the title is up on my story, but that's what I'm going to change it too when I edit it) and I finally had my first vote on The Hunger Games: Peeta's POV. This user (they aren't active anymore so I won't bother telling you their username) voted on every single part up to where I currently was writing in CF:PPOV. After that very slowly I started gaining more readers and by the time I started writing Peeta's POV of Mockingjay. I had about 10 regular readers. When the Hunger Games movie came out that year (it was either The Hunger Games or Catching Fire, can't remember which I'm leaning toward Catching Fire) I started getting a ton of reads. Every right around when the movie has come out I start getting a ton of reads. Most of those people don't stick around though like if I'm in the middle of a book, they read up to what I got then just stop. It's still not like I have a lot of regular readers, it's still a small handful of around 10 or less. Most of those who are my regular readers now weren't even the ones who originally started being my regular readers. A lot of my original regular readers don't have active accounts anymore which makes me think that maybe I've been on here for a long time, longer than most people.
