I don't usually write these. I wasn't planning on writing this part. But this is a fucking rant and an explanation. I know you guys don't see why this rant was triggered, but I will explain what triggered this rant. I just have to put this out there, to begin with.
Respect my views and I'll respect yours.
Keep that in mind as you read the following.
I had pep band tonight. Somehow the topic of God came up. It was a group of 8th graders talking about it with this one boy leading the whole conversation. They left the room to go to the concession stand real quick. So it was just me and one of the juniors, who I happen to be pretty good band friends with. And within the time few minutes these 8th graders were gone, I ended up telling my friend here that I'm agnostic atheist. He asked to explain what that exactly means. So I did. If you don't know what it means, I'll go over it quick.
Agnostic means that I don't believe in God, but I don't not believe in God. It's simply unknown. Atheist means I don't believe in God. So putting the two together makes agnostic atheist. Agnostic atheist means that I don't believe in God, but I also don't believe that it couldn't be possible, I just tend to lean toward believing that God doesn't exist.
Back to my story here. My friend asked me what agnostic atheism is, and I told him. He's Roman Catholic (like most people in this area) and he said he respected my views because it's just that. My views, not his. I can have my views and he can have his. I completely agree. He asked why I was agnostic atheist then. I told him because it can be explained through science. And it's true, it can. Moses parting the Red Sea. That's actually possible for the Red Sea to do that. It deals with currents and it only happens every like 9-10 million years or so. So really Moses just got lucky. If you don't want to believe that, that's okay.
Anyway, the 8th graders come back and the God conversation comes back up. This 8th grade boy that's leading the whole conversation says to me, "You know how atheists get offended when someone mentions God."
He didn't get to finish that thought because I cut him off to say, "I'm not offended. I'll respect your opinion and think if you want to talk about your religious beliefs you should be free to do so."
He asks me what I mean by that so I tell him that I'm agnostic atheist. All this kid hears is the word atheist, and he now says, "why?" Now he didn't ask like my friend did and I have no problem answering this question to people who ask, but he asked it such a fucking snotty stuck up ass voice. But I answered him calmly the same way I answered my friend because it can be explained through science.
This kid says he doesn't believe in science. I don't argue with him. How do you not believe in science? without science, we wouldn't have modern medicine. we wouldn't have the technology we have today. How do you not believe in science? But, I let it go, and just tell him he is entitled to his own opinion.
At this point, this kid storms out of the room. I carry on my conversation with my friend and at this point, we were talking about the stupidity of school dances. And this kid comes back in the room and walks up to me and has the audacity to say to me, "Didn't your parents raise you?"
I ask what he means by that, of course, my mom raised me. So he elaborates what he means by saying, "Didn't your parents raise you right?" what the fuck does that mean? Define fucking "right". Did my parents raise me right? Obviously, my did because I can respect someone else's beliefs and opinions.
But, oh this story gets better. He walks away from me and whispers to my friend (loud enough that I can hear him) that I "need to read the Bible and need an exorcism because obviously the devil has taken possession of my brain and body". Excuse me, asshole. I need to read the Bible. How about you fucking read the Bible. You can't be all holy roller over there and say that you don't fucking judge people and that God says to forgive everyone and then get all pissed off that I don't share the same religious beliefs as you.
Besides, how did he start talking to me? Oh, yeah, that's right, he said, "You know how atheist get offended when someone mentions God". what he should have fucking said was "You know how I get offended when someone says they're atheist."
This town as a whole acts like. I don't fucking share the same fucking views religiously and it's the end of the fucking world to them. I don't think you can call yourself a true Christian or Roman Catholic or any other division of Christainity when you judge fucking people for not being like you. You can't just fucking say "God forgives everyone" and then say "God can't forgive you because your atheist and the lowest scum of the earth". Bitch, that's being hypocritical.
I'm entitled to my own opinion people. Just like you are entitled to yours. It's about respect. Just respect that other people may have different views and opinions. It's not the end of the fucking world. I just don't believe in it. That doesn't mean that you have to think the same as me. Me not believing in God doesn't change who I am. I'm still the same person. You just fucking assumed I share the same religious views as you. I'm 18, I can make my own opinions and views.
The moral of this story if you take anything from it is respect others opinions and views, and they'll respect yours. It's not that difficult. I'll believe what I want, and you believe what you want.
