Nobody asked for this, but I think it's important. Your academics are important. I'm not that popular of a user by any means, but I feel like it needs to be out there. If I even touch one person and help them improve then I feel like I helped someone. Honestly, it may not seem that I like helping people because I am a sarcastic asshole, but I do love helping people. I think everyone needs to strive for their best, and if you need help I'll be here.
I wanted to talk today about academic goals and how to achieve them. This doesn't have to strictly apply to academic goals, but that's what gave me this idea.
As you probably know if you follow my life that I update in An Ending (or it's the My Life 'series' for when I start a new book.), you know I'm starting college soon. I've worked hard for my standing in my academics. I'm not valedictorian and I'm salutatorian. I'm ranked 8th in my class of 46 with a 3.9867. It's been hard work, and I'm going to share my goals and how I achieved them.
First, I never knew exactly what I wanted to do after I graduated. I didn't just know. I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. I love math and science, and I've always had an interest in how medicine works. It wasn't until my junior year that I knew I wanted to do physician assistance.
Of course, you should always try your best and try to get good grades. But that's especially true with going into the medical field. I needed to get good grades. I didn't want to be limited to what universities I could go to, so I tried to get the best grades I could. I could have tried harder, I'll admit that.
So, from the start I made it a goal to get good grades, kind of. I've never been one of those kids that has to study a ton or anything. School has come naturally to me. It wasn't until my sophomore year that I needed to somewhat study history when I was taking AP US History. I didn't know how to study though, so I half-assed it, by just reading my notes a few times. That is a way to study, but I've discovered better ways to study which I'll cover in another part.
But back to the point, I made it a goal to get good grades. I considered A a good grade. I had 2 exceptions to that rule though. I let myself consider a B in an AP class a good grade, and a B in English is half-good to me. I've never been that fond of English despite my love for reading and writing. I'm terrible at analyzing, that's my problem. I don't get what the teacher says from the passage.
What I'm trying to say is that you need to set goals for yourself. It doesn't matter what they are. It could be that you want to only get A's and B's or you want to get all A's. Or even that you want to study more. You just need to make yourself some goals or at least a goal.
So, that brings me to accomplishing your goal. After you know what your goal(s) are, you need to come up with a game plan. Figure out what it's going to take from you to achieve that goal. Maybe it means you study more or pay more attention during class.
My goal has always been to be on at least the A-B honor roll, and I always have. But, it's taken me some work in certain subjects. It meant in AP US History I needed to study.
This year my goals have been the same as always, but I want to study more. So I've been going over my notes at least a few times a week. It's all about getting to your goal.
That's my point today. Make yourself goals and figure out how you will achieve them. Then, do the hard part, and make those goals a reality.
