Bookish Habits

So these are my bookish habits. Some of them are bad bookish habits and some of them are just habits.

1. Not DNF'ing (DNF = did not finish)

I'm too much of a stubborn asshole to mark a book as DNF. Even if I fucking hate the book, I don't mark it as DNF.

2. Reading at night

I read at all times of the day, but I'll wake up in the middle of the night to read. Like it will be a school night and I'll wake up at 2 in the morning and instead of going back to sleep, I'll start reading.

3. I never dog-ear pages.

I never dog-ear the pages. If I don't have a bookmark or something to hold my place and I just memorize the page number I'm on.

4. I don't write notes while reading . . . most of the time.

I don't usually write notes while I'm reading unless the book doesn't interest me. Then, taking notes is actually helpful because it keeps me from having to suffer a book I don't like.

5. Multiple books

I used to never read multiple books. I thought it would be hard to follow the storylines. But what I've learned since my junior year is that it's not that difficult. My junior and senior year we were constantly reading a book in class. So if I only read one book at a time, I would only ever get through like 4 books a school year which is like eight months out of the year. So, I've started to read multiple books. At first, it started out with me only reading my class book and another book. Then, it migrated into me having a class book, a personal book, and an audiobook. I've even added a 4th book to the mix that I was reading on the side.

6. Book loans

I don't loan my books out anymore. I used to not loan them out very often. But I stopped about a year and a half ago completely. I let my one brother borrow The Lightning Thief and he fucking destroyed it. The fucking cover was ripped off of it and half the pages were coming out. So now I have a shitty newer copy of the book that doesn't match the rest of the series. I don't like the new fucking cover art. I want my old copy back in the condition I fucking loaned it in. But, now because of that, I refuse to let anyone borrow my books.

7. Series

Okay, so I won't start a series until I have all the books that are currently out in that series. Like I haven't started the Lunar Chronicles because I don't have winter, yet. I have the first three but not the last one. I can't start the series because what if I really love it and become obsessed and I don't have the next book to read right away? I may freak out, and not be able to read at all.

8. Summaries/synopsis

I don't read summaries or synopsises (I don't know if that the plural for synopsis) before deciding to read a book. I just look at the cover. I know that's horrible. I'm a horrible person for judging books on their covers. But I'll let you that the times I haven't judged a book by its cover, I haven't liked the book. The only other way I decide to read a book is if it's recommended to me.
