Chapter 9

"Night, Mom. See you tomorrow."

I head up the stairs to my room after saying good night to my mom. Carter and I got home a few minutes ago and he went straight to bed. His eyes started to roll in the restaurant and therefore I attempted to give him a piggy back ride home so he wouldn't trip on the sidewalk. I had him on my back when Harry ever so kindly intervened by saying "Jeez Piper, you're going to pull a muscle. Let me carry him." I disagreed at first, but Carter's sleepy expression and lolling head sold me on it.

 At the front steps, Harry set him down and I steered him in the door and up to his bed. The 4 of them waved to me from the driveway and I watched them walk home, Jack's arm slung around Amber's shoulder and her head on his bicep.

In my room, I pull out a pair of flannel plaid pyjama pants since the weather's getting colder, and an old baggy shirt I got at freshmen orientation 2 years ago. It has my old high school's logo on it, which has slightly faded with so many washes. I'm thrown back into memories of starting 9th grade with Maddie and Ashton, and making plans with them of graduating together. That's never going to happen now. I sigh and lean back against my pillows. I decide to text them, I need somebody to cheer me up.

Me: WAKE UP EVERYBODY I NEED TO TALK

Ashtray: WHATS UP BAGPIPES

Bestfriend: Are you okay Piper?

Me: Yes and no

Me: Mostly yes

Me: But some no

Ashtray: Talk to us my favourite Scottish musician

Me: Fluff off Ashtray

Bestfriend: Pipe

Bestfriend: I'm falling asleep here

Me: Okay okay jeez

Me: So today Carter had his first karate match

Me: And the girl he liked from school came to watch

Me: Her name's Jennifer

Me: I have 2nd period with her brother and he's friends with Harry

Ashtray: *Hairy

Bestfriend: Ashton

Bestfriend: Hate to break it to you but

Bestfriend: You're not that funny

Bestfriend: :)

Ashtray: Maddie

Ashtray: Hate to break it to you but

Ashtray: :)

Bestfriend: EXCUSE ME WHAT WAS YOUR MATH MARK

Me: LADIES LADIES CALUM DOWN

Me: CONTINUING ON

Me: So Jennifer came to watch Carter's match

Me: So did her brother...Jack

Me: So did his girlfriend...Amber

Me: So did Harry
