being a vampire has its perks. sometimes. i'm one of those old ones who have been around for hundred's of years and have seen so much shit. iv'e also done a lot of shit, some, that maybe i'm not so proud of. you see i have this habit of making deals with people. it is true that most of the times i get more out of the deal but once its made i'm bound to it. my deals are blood oaths you see, both parties have to hold up their end of the bargain until one of them dies. when i make a deal the other party receives a vile of my very own blood. if the opposing party dies at my hand then i am obligated to give them my blood (the vile they revive from me that they are required to carry with them at all times) to bring them back to life, as a vampire, if that's what they want.

my most recent deal is with an old man, the grounds keeper of a cemetery, that has a lot of unwanted night visitors. our deal is that i keep people off the grounds from dusk to dawn and he doesn't say anything about what i do to rid him of the menaces on his property or how i choose to eat or not eat. the deal has been held for almost two decades from when he first inherited the grounds from his grandfather. he was having problems with teenagers visiting graves at night, having parties, and leaving the place utterly trashed. obviously one night i was out hunting for some fresh blood when i came upon one of the parties. i was about three teens in when the grounds keeper came out and made the deal with me. he now carries around a vile of my blood signifying our deal, he also has refused to take my offer of turning him, in the event that i kill him, in his old age.

the deal benefits me greatly given all the teens who hear rumors about people who go missing in the cemetery late at night and come lurking in their curiosity. i eat good and the old man doesn't say anything. he also gets good business now with the various dead bodies found outside his property that need proper burials. one night was different than the rest though. most after hour visitors come late at night when everyone else is asleep, its dark and they don't have to worry about getting caught, well until they see me at least. the old man closes and locks the gate to the cemetery when he is tired or ready to end hours for the day. normally he keeps the grounds open until the sun sets when he retires to his house for dinner.

the sun was setting when i woke up from my days rest, the gate was already shut and locked so i knew that i had clearance to hunt anything that found its way onto the grounds. i was strolling through the cemetery when i heard leaves crunching in the distance. when i looked up i saw a man with shoulder length raven hair making his way past the shed i slept in, he traveled to the top of the small hill and stopped in front of a set of grave stones.

i was curious at the man given that it was dusk, the gate was closed, and he was all alone. he also didnt seem to be a teenager, he sort of carried himself as if he was though, and was clad in all black with touches of red here and there. upon getting closer to him i could clearly see he was wearing a black suit with a red tie and arm band with something written on it. temptation hit me at once when the wind blew. i could smell him, intensely. his blood was moving fast through his body emitting an intoxicating smell. the temptation was almost unbearable but i figured id give him a chance given that it wasn't dark outside yet. i jumped up and sat in the curved body underneath the large book holding angel head stone.

"never seen you around here before."

he whipped around quickly to look at me, causing his hair to blow over his face and his tie to swish to the opposite side of his body. his face was pale and he had dark makeup around his eyes that made him look angrier than his body language led him to be.

"i-i uh was just stopping by to see my grandparents before i leave town tomorrow. i havnt been back here since they died and i wanted to pay my respects as i wont be back for a while."

"oh i see, how come your leaving town?"

"uh, im in a band. we are in the middle of our tour right now and the venue isnt to far from here so i thought id stop by while im here. im Gerard by the way"

"Y/N, and the cemetery is closed to the public, didnt you see the closed gate?"

"yet your here? arnt you part of the public?"

"i have an arrangement worked out with the groundskeeper."

"an arrangement?"

"its complicated you wouldnt understand."

"try me."

"i guess if i tell you it wont matter since you wont be here much longer anyways."

"what do you mean?"

"you see i have this deal worked out with the old man that i can live here and watch over the cemetery at night while he sleeps, making sure there is no one here that shouldn't be i.e. you. as long as he doesn't judge or criticize me and my meals of choice."

"that sounds like a pretty shitty deal if you ask me."

"well i didnt ask you did I? and if you knew why it was important you wouldnt think it was stupid."

"so tell me."

"what?"

"tell me why its important that way i can judge if its shitty or not."

he crossed his arms over his chest and smirked at me, i smirked right back letting my legs dangle under me against the cold stone of the grave i was sitting on.

"i think it might be easier to show you instead."

as fast as lightning i jumped down from under the angel, pushing him hard against his grandfathers headstone. he had no time to react before i attacked him, he screamed the moment my teeth sank into his pale neck. i drank slowly fulfilling my temptation, i wanted to savor him while i could. his blood was amazing in contradiction to the many teenagers i had had three nights prior. it then hit me that this man had a job to do. i stopped immediately and let him fall under me hitting the ground grabbing at his open neck. i backed up and looked at him, he was writhing in pain and i could hear his heart racing. i leaned down to look at his face clearly. he backed completely against the headstone behind him.

"what the hell are you!?"

"im a vampire what else would have just ripped your throat open like that?"

"why?"

"why what"

"why didnt you....finish me?"

"because you have a job to do."

"w-what?"

"you said you were in a band right? you have a job to do, dreams to fulfill. you wouldnt be on tour if people didnt like you. ive never really thought about it until now but you have people whose lives youve impacted and still need to continue to impact so though your blood is some of the best ive ever had i have to let you go. now get out before i change my mind and resume back to my cold heartless state."

he got up quickly and looked down at me for a second before taking off running down the hill and towards the gate.

"And don't come back, if you do I might change my mind and finish you off."
