I sat at the picnic table and handed out crafts to the children. Most of them were young tweens who couldnt care less about what we were doing but we had to do it any ways. And the only thing that was making this summer as a camp councilor worth it was Ted. He had been my crush the last few summers. We would both wind up at camp, it would last the few weeks, and then when we left it would go away until the next year. I never thought about it, I never thought about him. That is until two weeks befor camp started and I my mother, who runs the camp itself, got a call from his dad. As soon as I heard her say his name my heart was racing and I was beyond thrilled and nervous to get to camp. Even though I'd be spending most of my time corralling ten to fifteen year olds to the various activities planned. I handed another craft pack to a kid.

"Dude, your mom asked me to trade places with you, she needs you on the lake."

I looked up at Ted, squinting my eyes in the sun. I sighed.

"Okay, did she say why?"

My stomach was rolling. He shrugged.

"Nope, just wanted me to do crafts instead. Said you were more qualified or something."

I let out a nervous Laugh as his hand grazed mine, him taking the small bag of popsicle sticks from me.

"Okay, I guess I'll see you at practice then."

He laughed.

"I hope so, it'd be a Shame if I didn't."

He winked at me and I almost fainted. It's a good thing I had a sunburn on my face already or he would've seen the mad blush spread across my cheeks.

"I'll see you later Ted."

I said quickly, taking off in the direction of the lake. I wasn't exactly sure what she could have wanted, we were teaching canoeing today and everything was set up yesterday. I hiked across the camo grounds before stomping down the hill to the lake.

"Ma!"

I called and she poked her head out from the shed that held the canoes.

"Oh good, he found you."

I laughed.

"It's not like it was hard, we were doing crafts."

She stepped out, a bunch of rods falling to the ground after her.

"Is it really two already?"

I looked down at my watch.

"Thirty but yeah."

She sighed.

"Okay, then I guess we better get a move on. These boats aren't gonna fill themselves."

She tossed me a paddle and I looked down at it in my hands.

"You needed me for this?"

She laughed.

"Well no, Ted could've done that part but I wanted to talk to you."

I raised a brow and got to work, mirroring her motions and putting two paddles in each canoe.

"Okay?"

She walked to the next canoe.

"I got a call from Ted's dad this morning and said he wasn't gonna be able to come back next year."
