I sat on my bed and looked at my body in the mirror across from me. I sighed heavily and begrudgingly picked myself up to finish packing. I knew the plan but wasn't sure I could go along with it, I would miss home too much, and Billy wasn't exactly the most reliable person. I sighed again as I zipped my suitcase and swung my backpack Iver my shoulder. I turned around and saw my mom standing sadly in the doorway. She had a tissue in hand and looked like she was about to cry if she hadn't been already. I offered her a small anile and hugged her tightly.

"You can come visit whenever you want mom."

She let out a small laugh and nodded her head.

"I'm gonna miss you so much baby."

I gripped my suitcase tightly and heard the harsh honk of Billy's Camero.

"I'm gonna miss you too. I'll call often I promise."

She nodded and stepped out of the way to let me down the stairs. When I got to the front door I took one big breath in and exhaled all my old memories. I was going for good now. I walked out the door and to the car that Billy was sat again.

"You ready to go miss thing?"

He side eyed my parents in the doorway and threw his cigarette butt to the gravel. I put my suitcase in the trunk and slammed it shut.

"Yeah, let's go before I change my mind."

He pushed off the car and got in, me following suit on the passenger side. I waved to my parents as we pulled out of the drive. I ran my hand through my hair and he placed a soft hand in my thigh.

"Everything will be alright y/n, it's a new start for both of us."

I looked at him and nodded.

"I keep trying to convince myself of that but i can't, the only thing that's pushing me right now is that we won't have to deal with those flower head things ever again."

"Demo-dogs."

I looked at him as he returned his hand to the steering wheel.

"What?"

"Max called them demo-dogs. I don't know what the hell it is."

I smiled at him.

"Gotcha."

He just shurged and kept driving.

We drove for two days, stopping for a short period during the night to sleep, and to stop for short meals. The second morning I woke up in the backseat by myself to the sound of busy streets. I sat up slowly and peered over Billy's shoulder at the Hollywood sign in the distance.

"I never thought I would actually see that in real life."

I let out a nervous laugh and he looked at me while we were stopped at a red light.

"G.I. Joe, making dreams happen one extensive car ride at a time."

He winked at me before driving off and pulling into a gas station to fill the Camero. I asked what he wanted before heading in to use the bathroom and get breakfast. As I was wondering aisles for snacks the news came on on the overhead tv. An old picture flashed of Billy and the Camero as I was checking out and I quickly said thank you and left. When I got back outside I slid into the passenger seat and looked at Billy with panic in my eyes.

"What's wrong?"

I put the bags in the floor.

"The news channel inside said police where on the lookout for you and your car. Your dad must have filed a report after we skipped town."

His eyes went wide before he turned the car on and rushed out of the drive.

"Shit. It didn't mention you did it?"

"No, it was just a picture of you and your car."

He was panicky.

"Are you sure?!"

I threw my hands up in shock.

"Yes I promise, you didn't tell your dad anything did you?"

"Hell no, what did you tell your parents?!"

"I told them that I was leaving with you to get away from the crazy and that when we figured out a living spot I'd call them and let them know."

"So they don't know what state we're in."

I shook my head frantically.

"Absolutely not."

He tapped the steering wheel before pulling into the back of a motel parking lot.

"Look, we could get caught out here, what if they think I kidnapped you?"

I looked at him like he was crazy.

"Why the hell-?"

"I don't know, Because the report is for me."

I stared at the empty lot in front of us.

"What if we traded the car in and got different looks?"

I looked over at him and he looked more distraught than I've ever seen him.

"You want me to get rid of my car and my hair?"

He seemed absolutely crushed.

"Bill you have to, what if someone recognizes you."

He stared ahead, we sat in silence for a few minutes.

"Shit."

"Billy?"

"Fuck!"

He hit the steering wheel.

"Billy?"

He looked out the side window before looking at me.

"New car, new look, new license plate."

I nodded.

"We can do this, we have to if we wanna survive out here."

"Easy for you to say, you don't have to do anything."

I placed a soft hand on his shoulder and kissed his cheek.

"You got this g.i. Joe. I believe in you."

He looked at me.

"At least I won't have to see my baby rust from the sea air."

"Now youre looking at the bright side."

I laughed at the look he gave me.

"First things first."

He pointed at a small corner barber shop.

"Time to become a completely new person."
