I jolted upright in bed, tears we're stinging my eyes and I couldn't help but cry. That was probably the worst nightmare I'd had since JD moved to Ohio. I stood and walked to my phone, I knew it was late but I had to call and see if he was alright. The line rang three times before I heard his groggy voice on the other end.

---
"Hello?"

I sighed in relief.

"Thank god youre not dead."

I heard a short laugh.

"What do you mean?"

"I just had a dream you blew yourself up, I'm sorry, I had to call to make sure you were still okay "

"No no it's fine, but now that you know I'm alright can I go back to bed?"

"Shit, yeah, sorry."

I wrapped the cord around my finger a few times, tapping my foot lightly.

"Is there something else that's wrong."

I was silent for a second.

"No, are you still coming back for prom?"

"Of course babe."

He laughed a little.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world."

I smiled.

"Alright. Then I'll see you, very very shortly, and I'll let you get back to bed."

"Alright, goodnight babe."

"Goodnight JD."

I stood in front of the mirror and stared at my made up face. I hated everything about this. Despite my nagging I still wound up dressed and made to the nines. I huffed before hearing the doorbell ring and rushing out of my room and down the stairs. Upon reaching the bottom I was met with my father shaking hands with JD.

"Now you better treat her right ya hear?"

They both just laughed.

"Have I ever not?"

"Can I answer that question?"

I butted into their conversation, a huge smile plastered on my face. JD just stared at me in awe as I padded slowly across the floor. The heels and long flowy blue gown my mother helped me pick out where making all normal functions much harder.

"Of course you can dear, but I'm sure your pal here treats ya just fine."

I hugged JD lightly.

"Of course he does, we wouldn't be friends if he didn't."

He just huff laughed and smacked his hand on my dad's shoulder.

"She takes no shit sir."

We all shared a short laugh. I grabbed JD's hand and stepped to the door.

"We better be going though, we don't want to be late."

Suddenly my mother burst through the living room door way with her camera in hand.

"No no no! Not until I get a picture of you two!"

Her voice was sweet and energetic and she never gave me a disapproving face no matter how much I rolled my eyes at her during this whole prom process. After she took her few shots we straightened up and left with haste.

The shit music blared through the dining hall as JD and I sat at our table. so far prom had been uneventful and all I wanted to do was lose my heels and dance. To bad JD wasn't one for twirling around the dance floor. I huffed lowly before someone stepped up behind me.

"Um, I'm sorry for bothering you but would you like to dance?"

He was tall and had a fairly pleasant demeanor. I grabbed his hand and went to stand but stopped quickly. I looked at JD who was glaring at the boy in front of me who I knew as Kyle. I decided to stand all the way up before addressing jd.

"Would it be alright if I had this dance with Kyle? I'll be right back as soon as it's over."

He looked at me and softened a little bit.

"It's your prom too."

I nodded once and let Kyle lead me to the dance floor. The whole thing was generally pleasant and made me super happy. This was the prom experience I wanted and was finally getting, no thanks to JD. When the song ended a new one started just as quickly. It was much more of a bouncy pop tune and had most of the teens bopping around and grinding on each other. I Thanked Kyle for the dance and went to walk off the dance floor before someone grabbed me and pulled me back. I was face to face with the schools line backer: Keith. He pulled me tightly to him and started dancing against me. I tried to push away and scream at him but he just held me tighter.

The next thing I knew I was on the ground. JD was standing above me, one leg on either side of mine, punching Keith square in the jaw. I stared in awe at the sight in front of me. Keith came back at him just as hard, making him stumble backward. He was careful not to step on me or my dress before pushing Keith to the ground, straddling him, and going to town punching him in the face. It was surprising to see Keith get a few hits from his position laid on the ground. It wasn't long before Kyle was helping me up and pulling JD off the unconscious football player. I quietly Thanked him, walking away and leading JD to the bathrooms in the back of the venue. I grabbed a chair a drug it to the bathroom, sitting him in it and then locking the door behind us. As I wetted a paper towel to clean his face I looked at him sternly.

"What the hell where you thinking Jason?!"

He winced but I wasn't sure if it was because of my use of his real name or the cut under his eye.

"He wasn't letting go of you."

He stared, straight faced, at the wall in front of him.

"So you decided to punch the living daylights out of him?"

He looked up at me, touching my exposed forearm where a large bruise had started forming.

"He was hurting you."

I pulled my arm away to get another towel to run across his swelling lip. He winced again as they both came in contact.

"And I appreciate you coming to my rescue JD I really do, but you could have handled that differently."

He sighed heavily.

"I spose you're right."

I just gave him a small smile, wiping the small bit of blood off his chin. I threw the towels away as he stood and checked his face in the mirror. When he touched his eye he made a hissing noise.

"Your not supposed to touch it goof ball."

I hit his arm lightly and laughed. He just looked at me and smiled.

"I think it'll be alright. If I can handle that I can handle this."

"Handle wh-"

He kissed me lightly and I could feel the part of his lip that was swollen as opposed to the part that wasn't. He pulled back after a couple seconds to run his tongue over the cut, before leaning forward and kissing me again. I pushed him away this time panting lightly as I rested my forehead against his.

"So, y/n, still hate the idea of prom?"

I winked at him before letting out a short laugh.

"Oh yeah."
