The rest of the ride to the school is filled with conversation about how lame it was that he had never tried dipping his fries in a milkshake and how it was impossible that I had never tasted a Smoothie King smoothie before. The conversation, that was more like an argument, lasted the entire ride back to the school. When we arrived at the school he pulled up to the parking spot next to my Toyota.
"Thanks for showing me the overlook. You should really come up with a cool name to give the place."
"I guess I have some homework."
"I expect it on my desk tomorrow morning at 9 am." I playfully reply and pull the handle to open the door.
"Yes ma'am." I close the door to his truck and grab my backpack from the bed. I unzip the front pocket and pull the car keys out looking for the unlock button. I push the unlock button and open the back door to place my backpack inside. I climb into the driver's seat to wait for David to come out and I hear the large black truck next to me start moving. He speeds down the road and turns out of the industrial park leaving a small cloud of black.
I am not sure what just happened for the last two hours, but I knew that I had not had that much fun in a long time. I had surrounded myself with people to occupy my time to keep my mind from wondering to moments that I once longed for. However, this was different. This time was filled with just pure fun. There was no need to worry about how people were judging my every action. Logan was actually a fun person to be around. I am not sure how I was unable to see it before.
David opened the passenger side door and jumped in throwing his backpack into the back of the car. I put the key into the ignition and put the car into drive making sure that the heater was set to the hottest setting. Pulling out of the parking space, I drive around the circle to reach the exit gate. As we begin to pass the school, I look up to see Anna sitting in the window watching as I drive by.
The entire drive home I pray that she was not sittingthere when I got out of Logan's car. She was not supposed to be at school. Sheleaves every day before lunch to go to work. Of course this would be the dayshe would stay behind. It is not like I have anything to feel guilty over. Wewent to a secret place, a place that Logan had probably taken her to a thousandtimes. We barely even talked. I was over stressing. There was probably nothingto worry about. She probably didn't even see me.
