The next two days are filled with intense study groups and all nighters. Thursday morning I walk in feeling confident for my finals. I take my American History exam first and fly through because the exam was correlated with all the questions Logan told me would be on it. As I start walking to the next final for English Logan runs up beside me.
"How'd you do?" I asked as he seemed pretty happy.
"I think I aced that test into next Tuesday." I laugh at his choice of words and we walk towards our English classroom quizzing each other on what we think may be on the exam. Principal Kathy walks in and gives us the exams and tells us we can begin. The exam wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy. There was a lot of questions on how to set up certain types of writings. I knew that Logan found joy in writing and he could probably ace this test with his eyes closed. An hour passes and Principal Kathy tells us to put our pencils down and hand the exams to the front of the room. I look over to the other side of the classroom where Logan has lost the happy expression and replaced it with a disgusted one. Anna is unaware of his change in attitude as she continues to talk to him about how well she thinks she did on the exam.
Bradley and James catch up to me as I walk out of the English classroom and head to Mr. Reynolds' classroom to take my last final.
"Theres-Theres. Sit next to me so I can copy off of you?" Bradley asked as he put his arm around my shoulder.
"Bradley you are going to do fine." I reassure him as we take our normal seats.
"You're right!" Bradley says as he starts to fiddle through his binder to find his pencil.
"You are going to do great too, James." I lean forward to see him looking down at the review.
"We need to go out and celebrate after today is over." Bradley inserts. Logan walks in as Mr. Reynolds starts to write the exam rules on the board.
"Hey Logan. You ready for this?" I ask in hopes to lighten up his mood before the exam.
It is obvious that he takes a moment to calm down. Instead of saying anything he just nods and puts his binder inside the table before sitting down. We begin the exam and luckily all the same concepts from the review are presented. As Mr. Reynolds yells time I finish the last problem. Once Mr. Reynolds collects Logan's exam, Logan gets up and leaves the classroom without saying anything. I look over at Bradley who is looking back and forth between James and me. "Maybe he wasn't ready for the exam." He tried to come up with an explanation. We turned in our exams and walked out to gather our stuff from the locker to go to lunch. All the seniors gathered in Mr. Reynold's room like we normally do, but Logan wasn't there. Neither was Anna. I started to panic because of what had happened the night of prom, which was nothing, but I was still worried.
After lunch I sat at the table in the auditorium and waited for Logan to come and join me. After almost a half an hour passed I knew he wasn't going to show up. If he didn't show up for his last final he would fail the course and he needed the Spanish credit to graduate. I don't know what was going on, but he needed to go to that room and take that exam. There was no time for me to go and look for him so I just prayed that he would have enough common sense to put whatever the problem was aside and finish the last little bit of senior year. As the bell rang I put my backpack over my shoulder and started to walk towards the Spanish room. When I walked by all the students' heads were down taking the final exam. I would have to actually stop and look for him. I walked by again and stopped. Looking through the window my whole body felt relief as I saw his masculine body sitting in the last row writing furiously on the piece of paper.
That relief I felt was short lived when my back went slamming against the hallway wall. "I don't know what the hell your problem is, but you need to stop whatever it is that is going on between you and Logan." Anna lowly threatened as she walked closer.
"Listen Anna, I have nothing but the highest respect for you and Logan's relationship. I wouldn't do anything to come between you." I tried my best to calm her down.
"You don't want to come between us?" She laughs at her own question. "Because that is exactly what you're doing."
"I tried to work this problem out with you earlier, but you wouldn't hear me out." I fight back while picking up my backpack that had fallen to the floor.
"Why would I listen to the one person I hate the most?"
"Because you have a problem with me being friends with your boyfriend. If it isn't clear that he loves you than you're blind."
"Don't tell me how he feels."
"I can't talk to you when you're acting like this." I start to walk back towards the auditorium.
"So you're just going to walk away?" She yelled. That statement brought back the memory of hurt I felt as I walked away from Luis for the last time.
I stopped and turned around. "When you are ready to talk about this I will be ready. Logan is a great guy."
"He was until you came along."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"We were happy! Then you couldn't keep your nose out of our business. Now he wants to go off and join the Army." At this moment I knew what had set her off.
"Joining the Army is an honorable thing."
"I don't care if it is or not. I told him he couldn't and yet he met with someone and is filling out paperwork." Maybe I had the story all wrong. This woman right in front of me just admitted that she was with Logan because she could take his want to be a good guy and use it against him to get whatever she wanted from him. Her problem with me was that I encouraged Logan to follow what he wanted to do.
"You can't just go around telling him what he can and can't do." With this statement she walks towards me silently and I prepare myself to get hit. Instead of getting hit, she stops right in front of me.
"You better watch it. I will not let you get away with taking Logan." She turned around and walked back towards the front office. I turned around and headed to the back door and pushed it open and just walked out. I sat on the hood of the car as I waited for David to come out from school. What could Anna do that would push me to my limits?
