A loud banging on the glass door woke me and the rest of us up. "I'll get it." Dan said as he helped Rachel from his chest. He walked out of the room and disappeared around the corner. I sat up and reached for my phone off the coffee table. The normal messages from my mom and the average text from Bradley. I was surprised by how late it was. We had all been tired, but sleeping in to almost eleven was not exactly the normal for me. Dan came back into the room. "There is a search and rescue team outside. They wanted to check in to make sure that we all were ok. They recorded the number of people and said that they would be back with supplies later in the day."
"Thanks." Rachel said as she held her hand out to him to lead him back to the position they were sharing before.
"Darling," He began as he put her hand into his. "It is nearly noon." She moaned in disagreement. He followed her wishes and laid back down and placed her head back onto his chest.
I rolled over and faced the side of the couch to try and go back to sleep. There was no need to be awake. If search and rescue was here then I knew that there would be no hope for today. An hour later and we are all sitting in the kitchen searching the fridge for something to make.
Sara was on her laptop looking at their school's updates hoping to find out what would be going on with their finals. Their school announced that finals would be pushed back to the following week until further notice.
Once they finished I jumped on to see if my school had any kind of update. My speech teacher emailed the class saying that during this time it was more important to worry about the safety of our family and neighbors and gave everyone a perfect score for the final.
My sociology teacher asked that we write a three page paper on how this impacted the community and its involvement instead of worrying about coming to campus for an exam. Biology was the only other class I had to worry about. There was no email from my professor so if the roads were clear next week I would have to be on campus taking that exam. Luckily I had brought my books with me.
Later in the day the search and rescue team dropped off some blankets and a large thermos of hot chocolate and a case of water. We drank the hot chocolate and continued to sleep in the lobby. The search and rescue continued to return each day with more water and hot drinks until Friday.
After spending a whole week alone in this hotel we had gotten the clear that we could begin to pack and leave Saturday morning if we wished. I was tired of being in this hotel and not in my own bed.
